View Full Version : NSMB Movie Shot

Would anyone else be inetrested if NSMB ran the Money Shot style contest for video? Something where the quality of the editing and such could be reviewed and not just the riders?
I know I would enter, but I don't know if there are as many videographers here as there are photographers. If the videos were short and pre selected the bandwidth might not be that big of an issue.
Thoughts?

id definetly be in, im more of a vid editor and not much of a photographer and im sure lots of other people feel this way too. so a movie shot would be perfect

thats such a great idea. me and my buddies were planning on doing a lot of filming this summer......be more of a motivation to get better shots and put more effort if ur competing for something.

I would dig it, as long as teh focus is on editing and quality. I just can't compete with some of these photos. The skills on these riders is awesome. The thing I liked about Money Shot was all biking photos had a great chance. Up until the finals there were a lot of shot that could have featured avergae riders with very good phtographers.
Of course, in the finals everyone is going huge.

Death Lens you're pre-disqualified from the Money Shot Movie Edition because you're already an established movie maker... Oh snap!

Not really like the UFC though, thats for riders. This would be for those of us out filming and editing videos. Winner would be best made video, not the most gnar riding.
EDIT: mattj beat me to it.

the real question would be defining what a "pro" is. I mean really....in video its even more of a grey area.

i think this is a really good idea. photo one is cool but lets switch it up a bit! see some new style, see how other places portray the sport
all that jazz
and its a cool creative outlet!

that would be sweet, i guess that the vids would have to have a predetermind time, like maybe 20-30 seconds? then have like the top 5 editers have to make a short 3-5 min video for the finals
erebody
06-03-2006, 08:03 AM
make it a minute or 2
20 30 seconds isnt enough
i dont think rider skill should be entirely discounted from the judging criteria, creativity in riding should be there aswell

that is true too, but not everyone on here would get a fair chance

i still have a tough time considering myself "pro" when i'm taking beginner film classes in my first year of college and i live with my parents. oh well...maybe i could judge? either way it'd be cool to see this contest happen!

Id be stoked about this event. Video really gives a whole new level of complexity to the art of riding. Bike riding is about art. How creatively you can put a line together, how you express yourself. I think video captures this feeling better.
anything I can do to make this happen, id be down.

If you have filmed/edited a movie that people have paid for, you should be considered a pro. At least for the purpose of this contest.

would movie shot competitors need to secure rights for the music in their entries?
i understand that obtaining rights to music is a large part of becoming a serious editor/producer, but personally would love to have the option of using any song for this potential competition.

i would indeed hope that permission not be needed for songs. i don't think it would be legally important for a little internet comp.
Geologyboy

If you don't plan to turn any profit from your movie, registering the songs isn't usually necessary. That is to say, they usually won't hunt you down.

i license all the music for my dvd's (unlike some people *cough* hypnosis *cough*) but for web stuff its not really a huge issue. after 15 edits being posted that have been downloaded a combined total of 260,000 times i'm not at all worried about it.
