Hi,
last year I had a Maxxis mobster for sry conditions and Maxxis Swampthing for the wet condition.
The Mobster is a very good tyre when it's dry, dusty and with some rocks. The Swampthin was so great in wet condition because they are no mud like in the alps in Whistler. The mud tires are not adapted to whistler because they are too many rocks.
A friend of mine had Minion in Whistler last year and he was be happy with this tires. For the High Roller, I don't know.

The Mobsters are not the best tire for Whistler, go with Minions or High Rollers. I've been running Hight Rollers for at leat 3 years straight, wet and dry, Whistler, Shore and racing... not a single flat, awesome grip and less rolling resistance.

I'd say between $65 and $80 CAD, depending on the shop.

In Whistler, they will probably by $85-99.

$100 for good sizes (2.5 +) with good rubber retail. Whistler is definately one of the most expensive places to buy tires.

Whistler Clearance Center near Moguls is selling Maxxis for about $64, Highroller and Minions, other shops may want to stay competitive and may offer the same price...

You will pass countless bike stores in Vancouver on your way to Whistler. I would just pick up a pair before you hit the sea to sky.

I notice that MEC only has the Minion 2.5 Front tire and not the Rear. What is the 2.5 rear like? Should I buy it or spend a couple dollars more and buy the 2.5 rear? For what it's worth, I'd be using it on my all-around bike and am already running Minions on it.

Last season I was running front 2.5 minions front and rear on my bullit and they were great. Most maxxis sponsored racers run the front model front and rear. I've never run the rear model, but apparently the front model corners better and rolls faster, at the expense of some straightline traction. For that reason the front model on the rear may be a poor climbing tire, but I never really found out.

I would have agreed last year. Whistler clearance sells them for 60$ now and most shops dropped their prices in response to a more reasonable 85.

When I first moved here I paid 110...arg

Thanks for the feedback. This is exactly what I wanted to know. I think straightline traction is more important on the rear of my 'pedaling' bike than cornering/rolling.

Michelins, that made me laugh, michelins use super soft compounds which wear fast, or at least mine did, since there designed as race tires, the maxxis and a med-hard compound which lasts but doesnt offer as much traction on hard packed surfaces. and if your getting mud tires dont get anything huge liek bigger then 2.3and make sure the treads are spaced out.

random hero spends so much time in the air on aline that you would go through a set of maxxis hard compund tires before the knobs on his michelins even started to wear.

Have they changed what they carry? I've never seen anything but 60a durometer and as the Chin said, Minions are $68.
