howzit NSMB BB

Making my first trip to Canada and WMBP. Will be riding solo for three days June 3-5 and gonna bring the aloha with me. Hoping to find a little up there too.

Will stay off A-line until ready. Yeah I read that thread. Been riding a couple of years and do up to 3' drops at this point so you won't see me on double black diamond. But I expect to get better fast at the park or to break something trying.

Got a couple questions. What's a good place to rent a bike? Looks like a $100 a day to rent. Was thinking of reserving with Summit online to save ten bucks, or maybe just figure it out when I get there.

Would cost me $150-200 to get my bike there from Hawaii. It's all-mountain cause I like to pedal uphill too but since there's a lift this time why not go full DH therefore rental. I like to go clipless which my freeride buds think is crazy but I like it better so maybe I can just bring my pedals along.

Anyone heard of the Whistler creek lodge? seems to be cheapest hotel. hope it isn't a dump.

Am I going to freeze my ass off? used to the tropics down here. You wear tights under your shorts or something? can you still snowboard up there?

Am I crazy if I do not get a full-face helmet? I've got open face, knee and elbow pads.

any positive input you can offer would be cool. mahalo!

I was hoping for something a little more plush and a little closer.

The listel is closer to the Park then the Whistler Creek hotel, which is in Creekside 5km from the Park, for ultra plush there is the Fairmont Chateau Whistler a 2 min pedal to the Park, as well as the Westin next door to the Park, basically anything in Whistler Village is as close as you need. Full face is recommended and you are renting a bigger/unfamiliar bike and you have never ridden here it may be a good idea, and elbows and knees are fine. AS far as weather and temps it amy be between 10-30 degrees C the time you are here adn it could be raining or sunny just come prepared for everything. And you are coming the last day Whistler will be open for skiing so you can still get up top if ya want. Have fun see ya when ya get here.....

hey muchas gracias for the input. I should have put a ;) when I said I wanted something plusher. I figured Rosscofat was yanking my chain with that suggestion considering that place is like $350 a night.

my brah wants to sleep in a freakin tent for chrissakes but then he likes to climb glaciers and sleep on ice and stuff like that. I told him no way with the number of bumps and bruises I expect to have after the first day am I sleeping on the ground.

stoked! :agree:

Surfer,

You and your brah may want to consider a condo. Couple of options: http://www.alluradirect.com/ or www.resortquest.com . If you brouse around, you'll find a good deal. Nice condos, too, some w/ hot tubs. Get yourselves a 1 bedroom or studio. Anything in Whistler Village, North Village, or even Blackcomb Village is walking distance to everything. Blackcomb is the furthest walk, but it is still a walk...about 10-15 minutes to the Fitz chair. Personally, I like Blackcomb a little better. You get a little bit different vibe than the village, a couple of cool breakfast joints, plus it is still very close to Whistler.

Fullface for sure. Bring layers. Bring your clipless, but you may want to bring flat shoes to try platform pedals, too.

IMO you sound ready for A-line, especially in early June. Don't get intimidated, all that talk is worst case scenario stuff. You might get passed twice, but you never learn until you try.

Get used to the park, then hit it at teh end of your first day.

Purchase a BroCard and you can save on rentals and get a fourth day free for your Triple Play Card. It should pay for itself in a few minutes up in Whistler. You can save some big cash on accommodations as well - at places like the Coast and the Westin if you are feeling the need for some plushness.

You are going to love riding the bike park. There's nothing like it.

We'll ship your BroCard to you for free as well.

BroCard here (http://store.nsmb.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=74).

Go with the BROCARD. A big group from Mission/Abbotsford just went there and I told them about the BROCARD and their cost savings was about $ 100 per person in tix/accomodation/food over the weekend

I thought you would have told him how great the skiing still is Lee. Although in June, it will only be on Blackcomb Glacier.

Blackcomb Mountain is open June 5 - July 30, 2006, 12-3pm, weather and operating schedules permitting. Sightseers upload from 10am. Skiers/riders upload from 11am.

PS - ski season's over.

Rent a bike at FanatykCo.

www.fanatykco.com

The rentals are Norcos with Saint Components, and there are some demo 07 RockShox on a few of the bikes.

You can also buy a Bro Card at Fanatykco, if you want to wait until you get into town.

I don't think locals on ALine are as vicious as locals in Pipeline, Backdoor, or Off the Wall, from what I've heard. But I don't surf, so I don't actually know.

But don't worry about ALine traffic...the park's not too busy this time of year.

mahalos again for the pointers. Brah Card it is! think I'll wait to pick one up at fanaytk since I'm leaving in a few days. you never know with mail to the islands. it's burned me before.

we found a pretty nice 1-Bd condo in creekside on the alluradirect website. I think it is for $50 a night. seems reasonably close to village and we'll have a car because my brah is coming from seattle. and they'll let him keep his dog there, that was the real kicker. a lot of constuction on the place so got a good rate but we don't plan to be there in the daytime.

need to pick up a full face helmet. i ordered one online once but I got a funny shaped melon and had to send it back.

nice call on da fish brah! will look for the NSMB crew on the A-line. Ride on!

As mentioned before, bring layers. You get up top and it gets cold, that
is if you're from Hawaii. It wasn't that much to take my bike from Kauai.
But if you no mo' one DH bike, you going die laddat.

Fanatykco guys are
awesome, got my hadley back in business in one afternoon (the guy had
to heat it w/ a torch to get the bearings out).

Lots of cool folk up there in WBP, don't make too many ozzy jokes haha!
You might even meet some real Canadians...:mullet: although ellusive, you should
be able to find them by following the sound of celebration as the Oilers
bring home the cup...
