hey guys,

I've been given a chance to build a bikercross/bmx track for a local summer camp and am looking for other peoples thoughts on the track design so far. Keep in mind this is just a rough sketch still, measurements will be taken and added to the sketch as it gets graphed out for construction.

Hey Tim,
Make it easier for yourselve,go to some local BMX tracks and take a look.
Abbotsford has just redone theirs.
Starting higher and going down ending lower makes it just a matter of flow.
Look at BMX tracks and note how lips are and trannys,as well as combos of rythm sections. Measure distances out and ride them to get the best feedback.
If you have access to the redclay based dirt (gold)it really packs fast , rake out the rocks on the top .
good luck.

That would be a sick track, however make less bumps in the middle section so there would be more flow. Too bad there isn't a track in North Van!

Only a matter of time folks..... For those who aren't in the know, it is now under development.

Thanks Gary,

Over the next week and a bit I wil be looking at some of the local tracks and taking measurements, as per the slope and dirt, the land is pretty much perfectly flat and there will be a drop in ramp that is not on the drawing at the moment. Dirt wise our current base is packed black clay and we have more dirt(not sure what kind yet, hopefully good stuff) being trucked in and roughly shaped with some excavaters then we will be doing some tuning with a bobcat and shovels.

Timberline Ranch in Mapleridge. They're starting up the bike program again for the summer camps, so over the next while we'll be putting in the bikercross track and a bunch of new trails.

Once things start getting completed I'm going to try and set up some open sessions for people to come out and ride.

that degisn looks like what lafarge used to look like.

some of design was loosly taken from the old lafarge track, when all is done it is going to be a mix of some of the local tracks (old and current) and a mix of new stuff that i'll be putting in. Unforunatly I can't make it too technical seeing as it is for a summer camp where kids 8 through 16 will be riding it most of the time.

build a good BikerX?????, go put a saddle on a unicorn- it'll be easier.

someone should advise them that building a BX course is a bad idea. Also for camps it is not really a great item for any kind of coaching etc. For what you get out of them compared to how much trouble they are to build its a tough one for sure.

Look at the Whis BX, if it wasn't the the last trail how many people do you think would hike it?? Look at how theirs is far from perfect, and they have seemingly unlimited resources and have built like 8 of them now......harder than you think.

I understand it takes a lot of work for build a decent track, the track going in is just one of many features that will go in at the camp as time goes on.

on the other hand, we're not looking for a world cup level track where we can produce pro level racers. We're looking at a track where kids can come and have a fun time riding, learning basic skills and track etiquette.

I think they have everything lined up there in the way of help for the moment.

I'll talk to the property manager though and see if he wants another hand and then get back to you.

well..i think a good bikercross track (like 4x?) is ALOT different than a good BMX track....

bmx tracks have more rollers, while bikerX tracks have more of gaps and drops (sorta stepdowns)

I dunno what the location of where the course is gonna be built but I'd suggest that you try to use the land that is there (if it isn't just smooth but some hills and so forth) and try to incorporate that into your design of the track.

The field where it's going in is about half flat, and half trees and super small hills, the area with the trees is eventually going to be used for some dirt jumps, ladder bridges, and other obstacles, (we want to try and keep keep as many of the trees as possible). So for the track, the area we will be using is pretty much completely flat.

Hey guys!

Here's a bit more final of blueprint as to what the track is going to look like, the grid is on a 1 square to 1 meter ratio.
