I had heard mutterings about this, but didn't realize it was final.

No Cypress Bike park this year.

from the website.....

Posted - May 1, 2006

This summer CYPRESS MOUNTAIN will begin constructing the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Venues for the 2010 WINTER OLYMPIC Games. Over the next 2 summers will to be adding a TERRAIN AREA with SEVEN NEW RUNS for HIGH LEVEL INTERMEDIATE/EXPERT SKIERS and SNOWBOARDERS which will be accessed by a QUAD CHAIR lift. We will also begin the construction of a NEW 50,000 SQUARE FOOT DAY LODGE located between the 2 main chairlifts (The Eagles Express and Sunrise Chairs). Most of these plans are slated for completion for the 2007/2008 Winter Season and will greatly improve the recreational experiences of our guests in both the winter and summer seasons.

All of these developments take place on Black Mountain in and around the Bike Park Area. Due to these construction and access requirements, we will not open the Cypress Bike Park for the summer of 2006.

However, we do plan to continue building bike trails this summer that will enhance the varity of the trails in the bike park for the coming years.

Thanks for your support and interest in the Cypress Bike Park and we look forward to having you back on the trails with all of our new facilities in the near future.

Thats a bummer, I loved hitting the park for a few early weekend morning burns on weekends and was looking forward to doing so again this year.

I really think DIgger and crew were making a great park.

The writing was on the wall for this season with all those vague emails. Fingers crossed for '07.

I wonder if they'll insist on closing the "advanced" terrain, unless you're with an Olympic coach. That's how the only half decent mogul run on Bowen face went for the last two years.

Sorry, I'm happy for better skiing terrain, so long as it's open to the public.

hmmm. Upgrade the hill, just as global warming is just kicking into high gear. And as people's disposable income is going down.

Good luck with that!

It could be the Olympics will give Cypress the capital to create a better bike park than they otherwise could have.

I assume they will make an assload of money off the Olympics?

Meh, or it could do the opposite... Which is definitaly more likely.

Keep your fingers crossed that Global Warming will put a permanent end to the local ski season. Keep crankin' out those hydrocarbons!!! D.

Hopefully the park will be better than last year. Only one worth while trail on the whole park!

the hill itself will make money, the bc tax payers will be paying for this forever though. its going to be WAY over budget.
