Getting SO psyched for this roadtrip! I've never been to Cali before so it's going to be rad. My buddy Jason & I are heading down in 15 days and we're going to blog/photo journal the whole trip.

PS...if anyone has been to Woodward West, we're looking for a way to get in and check it out for a day - any help/advice would be totally appreciated.

I'm in San Francisco and would be down to ride with y'all if you make it through this way. Or at least share some cali greenery and brews and we can clown on how lame the trails are down here compared to the shore. e-mail me mogur36@yahoo.com

...some cali greenery and brews
rymes w nurple I wouild like a $65 eighth please.
red nector damn good beer.
1n 1980 we went down for the first US Festival, me and 3 buddies. One old statiowagon and a Harley which our buddy insisted on pushing into our hotel room. I dont know if we had $400 between us, we went to the 3 day outdoor concert in the San Bernadino desert, saw U2, Bowie, Pretenders, Van Halen and a bunch of others.
I remember getting pulled over for speeding, i didn't have a license (suspended at the time) so my buddy slips me his license, i give it to the cop. He takes a look at it and says"You boys headed to San Berdoo?". Never even questioned me on the license.
Another memeory of this trip is being in Redding California, it's 116 degrees Farenheit and we're swimming in the river. I remember saying out loud how I'd like a beer and sure enough a 6-pack comes floating down the river.
Another memory is the station wagon broke down in LA and we had less than 75$ to fix it. The owner of the car had less than $5 left.
So anyhow have a good one and I hope you have memories in 25 years from now. BLOG ON.

haha..that six pack story reminds me of a train wreck accident I heard about in Montana. Apprently an entire car dumped beer into the river and people were 'fishing' for it all summer long.
I LOVE people's roadtrip stories...hopefully we won't have any broken down van ones to add to the collection, but the cool thing about the net is that other people can 'come along' on the trip even if you only have room or funds for a few.

I've noticed your map has you bypassing San Fran - any reason? There are actually some pretty decent trails around there (I lived there for a year or so a couple years ago). No shore type stuff, but oodles of nice singletrack - you can even still sneak onto the "Repack" downhill!
If you change your minds - its like an hour and a half from Sacramento - check out Joaquin Miller and Redwood Parks in Oakland, and so many other places I can't remember!?!
Also - on the other side of Sacramento - Nevada City, California is home to some AMAZING singletrack - definately worth a day or two!
Good luck!

well, bypassing SanFran wasn't a conscious choice - the rides we're doing are more based on the guys we're meeting up with and the couches we're surfing. Pretty much the only people I know in Cali are magazine guys (through my job), so we've arranged all our rides with them.
I have a feeling there are about 10,000 amazing rides between here and SoCal that we'll be missing - but we only have 10 days this time around....guess I better start planning 'Roadtrip 2.0' for next year :D
