... train wreck's a go, although first section is slated for tree falling (highway widening) soon...
Instead of hijacking that other thread, I thought I'd ask this question here. What exactly is in store for Train Wreck? I noticed some surveying markings last summer and noticed even more in there when I rode it the other day. I also wasn't sure whether there were less trees than normal or if that is how it normally looks in the spring.
Anyway - what are the plans for the highway as it passes by Train Wreck?
rumor has it that its over but I cant quote any reliable sources...

I don't understand the reroute...
in order for the new road alignment to affect train wreck it would have to cross the tracks at least twice and get close to the river???? no?
Is the alignment going to staighten out the last sharp left hand corner?

no talk of realignment, just widening???
Maybe the highway isn't the problem, maybe its the railway...

Ride past function, over the tracks and look for the trailhead on your left. Train Wreck is clearly marked in the Whistler Moutain Bike Guide.

the plan is to straighten out the last corner before the tracks and, this was the plan last I heard, have an overpass over the tracks to keep traffic flowing....essentially the highway widening/realigment will nuke the whole first section of train wreck.......I did a bunch of the survey/reposting work on the legal last spring so that's probalby a lot of the stuff people have seen in there. Part of the realignment is either some remediation work, or new trail construction, as we have seen with other developments in the valley. although talks have taken place between Kiwiet/Muni/WORCA, to the best of my knowledge nothing has been finalized, although several options are being explored. Nothing on the riverside of the tracks should be affected by the widening though.........

Thank someone for that!

Any further news on whether this will be happening or not? If it will be a victim of the highway construction, will anyone (Worca, muni, etc) be putting the word out to the public that it's last call for bikers wanting to ride Train Wreck, or will it be a case of the trail being there one day and gone the next?

Has anyone ever had any problems with the squatters at the very far end of Train Wreck where that old logging road takes you back to the highway?
The satanic signs they had up last summer weirded me out a little.

Nope because I haven't been on the Train Wreck (nee X-Files) trail in about 8 years and they weren't there then. Too bad about the trail if they lose it so more cars can go to Whistler for 2 weeks.
