Well, here's the story. My school just bought 7 new Nikons. 6 of them being D50s and one D70. I must say....I'm impressed. I really like the feel and configuration on the camera. The wieght behind the camera make it feel like you're holding a real camera. My digital rebel just feels light and empty.

I'm just looking for some opinions about selling my Digital rebel (about 2.5 years old) and buying me a D70. I'd sell the camera (w/ the 55mm lense) with a 1gb sandisk and a 512mb sandisk "extreme". I'll also throw in a camera bag. I've also got all the papers and box if that effects value at all. The condition of the camera is fair. There's abit of wear on the view finder from it rubbing in the camera case but its an easy replacement. There's also a spec inside the viewfinder which cant be cleaned unless you take apart the camera...but its been like that since I got it.

If I procede to getting the D70. Any Ideas as to which lense to get? I know the Nikon lenses are hell of allot less expensive than the canon lenses. In total I've got about 1500$ to spend give or take a few with the taxes. I'll be shooting abit of everything so I'm abit leaneant to sticking with the 70mm 3.5 that comes with the kit.

Oh...I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this. I thought it would of gotten to the right audience.

To tell you the truth I really dont think theres a point and buying a D70 when your gunna sell your rebel. There basically the exact same camera. Upgrade and get something a little better. I wouldnt say Nikon lenses are alot cheaper too, from what I've seen there the same or more expensive than Canon lenses. I think you really need to check out the D100 or D200, before you go ahead and buy the D70. Or look to buying the new Canon 30D, or even a 20D, they've come down a lot in price, and there alot nicer than the D70. Just my 2 cents though

^^what he said. The canon 20d and 30d are the same camera as well, the 30d has a bigger screen and the shutter is rated for more cycles. I wouldn't buy a d70, it's been around for a while and prolly due for replacement. Wait a while, the latest and greatest will be out soon enough. I wouldn't buy a d100, those bodies are like 4 years old and obsolete, they have a slow flash sync and their metering isn't as good as teh d70's.

Thanks for the help. Another reason why I wanted to sell the rebel for the D70 is because the lenses are cheaper aswell as the accessories. It would of permited me to experiment with other lenses withough burning a hole in my bank acount.

No Nikkor lenses are not cheaper than canon..... about the same if not some are more expensive... I would have to say that the D50 and the Rebel are more on the same line where the D70 and the 20D are in compeition.... 20D is obviously better for sporting shots with its 5 FPS but IMO D70 captures a lot warmer colors. Just my 2 cents

it doesn;t make a lot of sense to switch brands. You have already invested into canon and they make good products. I would suggest keeping your current lens and body and maybe picking up a new canon body. The lenses are interchangeable so you can then either sell off the body later or keep it as a backup or remote camera.

I would say once you start buying lenses you can either mount one body with a long lens ond one with a wide lens or I would build up a remote system (With triggers) that you can get some cool angles with.

mounting a wide angle on a tree and firing down remotely would be cool. The NBA guys do this through the backboards.

a second body is never really a downfall.

I agree that Nikor lenses as just as expensive as canon ones.

but whatever turns your crank.

you won't get anything for your rebel.
