Last year there was some nice stuff. This could be your last chance to recover your stolen Bike. Take your ID and any incident number or proof of ownership on FRIDAY MAY 6TH to the preview. If you find your bike the police are there to help you out. If you can't then go early on saturday but the bikes get harder to see and your cutting it kinda close. If you got insurance money your not entittled to get your bike back (unless you want to give back the monies).

If you've been calling the police and they said they don't have your bike go anyways. The police may have your bike but described it poorly and or its been painted etc........

Finally, these bikes are the ones that the police have been holding for a year. If your bike went missing more recently than that then it probably won't be there. Try calling the police and ask for the number for the properties lockup. I think thats what its called. When you call the lockup be clear in your description and cross your fingers.

I have 3 bike stolen in the last year. Wish me luck.

Paul

Cool, but what happens if you buy a bike, then the owner finds out that its his and wants it back?

Once sold at Auction the bike is the property of the purchaser. Your Auction Receipt is proof that you own the bike. The previous owner had a year to reclaim the bike and thats why I giving this last heads up now. I will likely purchase a bike or 2 for parts this year and last year I bought several and resold them for profit after removing some of the choicer parts of course.

You can already go out to Able auctions and view some of the bikes. A lot of them are already there for viewing.

I called them yesteday and the lady just said to come down to 1500 lougheed between 9 and 5 and you can walk around the auction building and see what's there. It's across from the cactus club on lougheed.

If you have to travel a long way, I would not bother. I went to the last one and the place was full of rusting POS. Not one decent DH less than 5 years old to be seen. could be different this time, but I was very disapointed.

Most of the bikes are sears/wallmart type cheapo bikes. You need to go and check the bikes out first prior to auction day. We went a few years back and did this to check the bikes. Lots of frames are damaged or the wheels are bent so bad you would not want to ride them. And remember once you bid you have to pay for the bike prior to picking them up. This means you own the POS. Check out what you want to bid on prior to auction day as a lot of people get caught up in a bidding war. A few good bikes are available but you need to know what is there and what condition its in. You have been warned.

Definately good advice ^^^^^^^^^

The bikes are generally beaten up and rusty. The first hour is all about the showoffs bidding way to much money on bad items to seem like they know whats what. After a while the prices come down to reasonable and there are some gems hidden in the middle of all the rubbish. The Preveiw day is well worth it cause theres no one rushing you. Get the Program and mark on it the ones your interested in. That evening go through your list and decide what your limit will be for each Lot number. When your bidding go up to your limit and if you don't get the item OH WELL. Wait for the next item on your list to come up remain relaxed and have some fun.

Good luck.

my friends dad bought what he thought was a good commuter/ light xc bike, turned out to be a pos, but it gave us alll a good laugh, seeing him bring it home and park it next to his team dh, and his sons a-line

If I were hopeing to get a bike there, I would definatly make sure to go and check them out before, or else you might be sorry afterwards

You also got to think that there is GST and PST on the bikes plus a 15% levy that Able auctions adds on so you got to add 29% more to your purchase which kind jacks that bargain POS that you just bought. And in the end no matter what channels the bike has gone through you are still ending up with a STOLEN bike. Plus you have to wait around for ever and it eats up a good chunk of your day.

But if you do recover any of your stolen bikes its the greatest feeling in the world and not a waste of time at all, Lets not be so negative everyone theres still hope for people who have had things stolen from them.

The Able Auctions site says it's been changed to the 13th

Yup the dates been changed to the 13th starts at 1 PM. Preveiw on the 12th from 12NOON to 7PM . Theres no early preview I was there today.

As for ending up with a STOLEN bike, someone will. The point is if your missing a bike its definately worth checking this out. If you don't then you may find someone on your ride and they could be the legal owner. You won't be able to do anything about it after the sale.
