Just got the word that Whistler will need lifties for the Bike Park from June 24th - Oct 9th.
If you're interested contact Employee experience at:

They haven't been posted yet but will be soon. The pay is $9+/hr and includes a bike park pass and employee housing oportunities.

How stuck are they on having liftees work until October? I have to go back to school at the beginning of September and wouldnt be able to stay another month:(.

They are picky about staying for the bike park. If you can't put in the time till Oct. check out the Glacier Lifty positions, they are hiring for that too.

I just applied and sent out my resume for the lifties, but I didn't know they were picky about staying until October because I also have to go back to school in September. Is it even worth going to the interview now? =/

It's probably worth doing the interview, but you'll probably end up on one of the glacier lifts.

Working the glacier is probably better. Just because you like biking doesn't mean you want to spend your day lifting heavy dh bikes off the Fitz chair, does it?

I feel bad for the people who have to lift my bike off the lift.
I think we should all make sure to say "Thank You" when you grab your bike at the top. It's the least we can do. The mountain definitely does not pay them enough for the amount of heavy lifting involved.
However, it would be a great place to get to know people and get inside contacts at the park. But, it comes at a heavy price!

I always make it a point to give them a genuine THANK YOU when I grab my bike, along with a great big smile to get them smiling. Although, they're always already smiling because none of them can resist ringing the dinosaur bell on my bike (off of my first bike). Everyone gets great enjoyment out of that dinoasaur bell :)

A thanks and a smile is always a good thing to do for the lifties.

You guys are make working in the park sound horrible. Being a Lifty is not that bad. You don't have to pick the bikes up, when you get good at it you can just pull them back by the stem, and you don't have to spend all your time at the top of the lifts pulling bikes off. Fitz can be busy, but normally only on weekends and the other lifts are not hard at all. I would think spending time at the top of Garbo or Peak on a sunny day would be great.
Plus I'd rather hang out with you lot of bikers for a job then sit in an office. My wife was a validator at the Fitz for a bike season and loved it.

That bike on the hook though...I know how hard it is to get on there, it must be worse getting it off!

Oh yea, I forgot about the hook. I always try to put the lightest bike in the group on the hook when we have to use that thing.

Best job I've ever had, and I've had alot of jobs. I dont know about Whistler but at most places if you have a full crew theres lots of ride time.
Could you perhaps be more specific about ''housing opportunities'', working at Powder King Mountain Resort, they gave me a room to stay in free of charge and for the lot of the part free or heavilly discounted food (not junk food) and all the pop/iced tea/water I could drink.....anything close to that at Whistler by any chance???

This is the house page for housing, I don't see anything listed specifically for the summer yet. The rates link is at the bottom of the page.

Hey :)
I would be interested for that kind of job (not this summer but next summer) and I would like to know for those that have done such a job:
- how is it? did you like it? how much does it pays and do you have time to ride?
- do Whistler provides you with your accomodation?
- How would you compare working at Whistler to any other places, close downhill-biking hills?
Thanks!

The Glacier Peak job starts from June 1st to August 1st, for anyone who can't stay until October :)

$9/hr is very low, considering ticket prices just went up. I would have guessed at least $15-$20.

For a lifty job? Seriously...thats what skilled workers get paid here. (maybe a touch less)...to stand there and pull bikes off?...wowsers I need to live where you live.

I sure hope that you were joking and that you don't honestly believe that a lifty would be paid $15-20/hour. If you were serious, then you'll want to adjust your perspective if you're moving to Whistler or you will be in for one serious shock of what life is like here.

The pay may be low but at least you get a free pass for the bike park if you work as a lifty and you get to stay in residency which is like 300/month (not bad). But if you are thinking of moving to whistler to make money, good luck. I got hired to work at Glacier Peak for the summer and I'm going for the experience and to meet new ppl I think that is the way to go.

Well, this is the Whistler forum and winter is way's away however I thought I'de poke this in anyhoo. Powder King Mountain Resort (its more of a hardcore ski bum institute rather than a resort, ie.buses converted to winter live in cabbins  ) will probably be looking for people to work. This past winter PK was terribly short handed, we even had one day where we did'nt even open the Alpine T-lift because there was nobody to work, had to get the bar staff to put on their jackets and help.
If your smart with money you can easilly return home with money, cooks can earn salary and probably bank $2k a month (and thats after all other expenses like food/cost of living), patrollers can make more. I'me not ceratain however it has been leaked that the wages will be going up. Probably anywhere from $12-15 an hour. Theres generally work in the afternoons and on non-operating days if you want it, great atmosphere, lots of friendly people, and LOTS of powder. Cost of living/rent is very cheap. The ''condo's'' will be renovated this summer (if theres anybody to work-it'lle probably get done) and chances are those are gonna be the staff living quarters decked out with a live in chef for all you grubly needs :D , all for a VERY affordable cost, plus theres the Chateau Atco, again going to be cleaned up for probably half as much. I never paid at all for staying there, others paid like $40 a month  , cheap.
Cooks, liftee's, bar staff, kitchen staff, SKI PATROLLERS!!!!!, and ski shop tech's will more than likely be needed.
I'lle probably bump this post in October or November, but if your already interested, PM me and let me know. Its always good to plan ahead ;)

i applied for i earlier in the week and had an interview on friday, and they gave me a second interview, i was surprised 2 interviews for such a low paying job. by the way its 9.20 an hour pretty much guaranteed 40 hours a week 4 days on 3 days off, i was told. so 10 hour days are fid with me. i dont mind about the liftin or the shitty wage i can just oogle at the bike candy all the long, nevermind the lady candy. but my gf is movin up too so it makes rent a heck of a lot cheaper for both of us together over by alta lake. anyways i would say its prob not the best but i'm lookin for a second job obviously to off set one low wage wih a higher one and less hours.
I am coming over from Aus in a few weeks to spend the summer in Whistler. Bringing a Hard tail, which will be fine for most things but would be nice to have the opportunity to jump on a big bike every now and then. Are there any jobs where it is possible to get free rental / demo bikes?

If you work for the mountain Im sure they will give you a deal on a rental. I doubt they will let you ride something for free.
