I just bought a set of Race Face evolve XC cranks/bottom bracket for my Rigid Rocky Mountain XC Bike.
Unfortunately I bought them on eBay and the guy shipped me the DH version instead of the XC version.
So my question is... Is there really much difference between the 2 other than the weight? I could return it and get him to send me the right ones, but that will probably take another month and I want to start riding now!
So should I return them? Or just mount them on the bike anyways?
Thanks,
-Kai

I think the DH are heavier built but maybe you should just keep them, I use the DH for freeride and I really like them.

I think they are worth about the same.
But with 300 grams extra weight, obviously they DH cranks are burlier/stronger.
Did you even get a big ring?

Heavier doesn't always mean stronger... a Walmart mountain bike is heavier than an IF steel hardtail, but it definitely isn't stronger. I bet the Diabolous are actually stronger than the Evolve DH.

If you got it from an ebay store, i would let them know, and maybe they'll be cool and let you return them then get the right set for a discounted price. Or something like that at least.
But if you got it from just a regular power seller or whatever, i wouldnt bother, cuz i doubt they'll want to deal with you.

Alright, thanks guys.
Its not a problem to return them, its just that I dont really want to wait another month before I can go riding.
It came with a big chainring and everything, so I think Im just going to throw it on the bike.

You bent your cranks pedalling up a hill? Please explain how this happen. Sounds like you just got a defective pair.

i believe it was a 36-16 gear ratio and a set of very long steep hills and by the time i got to the top my cranks were notl as stiff as they were 15 minutes prior and with closer inspection they were bent. the evolve XC's are very light cranks.

The deus cranks are even lighter than the evolves and i took my XC bike with deus cranks down DH runs in telluride colorado and durango colorado. The cranks took it all in stride. I cant imagine you bent the cranks JUST from a climb.
