View Full Version : How come no "signature" frame in MTB?

I ride alot of BMX as well as Freeride, and I read the BMX mags like Ride (UK) and Dig, lots of adverts and new products every month to look at
i'm well aware that many pro BMX riders get signature frames, like with Pro skateboarders getting signature skateboard decks, in both cases the Pro rider / skater get a royalty payment which helps with the rent :)
how come in mountain biking, there isn't a single signature frame on the market? (apart from a limited run of Bender Banshee Scream signature frames some time back)
is it the higher value cost of a FR frame compared to a BMX frame or skateboard deck?
Surely a rider like Bearclaw deserves a pro sig frame?

Some riders do have signature frames they are just not at common as skateboarding or BMX.

Simmons, Schley, Chase, & Gracia have also had signature frames. And I'm sure there are more.
You have to remember from a marketing point of view sometimes it can be a risk. Last thing you want to do is EXCLUDE people.

I think instead of signature frames, pros should just get signature paint jobs. That would be a no-risk thing for sponsors, and the rider could design the paint job how they see fit.

Nobody mentioned the Iron Horse Porter.
simmons and shley had sig frames? that's news to me.
part of the reason they are done to begin with is to suit the rider's preferences, in terms of geometry, features, and colourways too apparently. If it were just signature paint schemes, wouldn't that be pretty pointless?

224 GBR peaty special, and pretty much every dh rig that ends in "team" is a signature rig for the team.
T-Mo Pritzel's Scott DJ bike gotta sig as well....Lots around. But what use would it be riding around on a signature bike?
Skateboarding and Snowboarding are different when it comes to such things - i wonder why? Riding/Rolling on a piece of wood/plastic/whatever designed by some company geek for some rider whop thinks this is it just to throw another one on the market one year later.
back when i was riding skateboards i really loved the board with the 49 logo on it tho (cannot remember the name of the rider)......incredibly high ollies possible and the erik dressen from SC as well.

maybe its to do with "payment" structure being different between skate/bmx and mountain biking?
sig. frames and decks = royalty payments for pro skaters and bmx riders, perhaps a lower salary and more money from royalties
maybe pro Mtn bikes get a higher salary so less need for royalties?
anyone know...?

Actually Madman, Leech's frame is the moment, the evolve is the other complete trials bike norco sells.

mtn bikers probably get less salary fullstop compared to bmx/skaters...
