Marzocchi Shiver - Greatest fork of all time? Any year.

Discuss.

I rode a Shiv for a few years and loved it. But now I'm on a 888 and I appreciate the increased steering precision. No question though, Shivers are really nice

Loved it while I had it, didn't think there could be anything better until I got the 888RC. For the first 3 years, I think it was top of the class.

The 888 has better dampening, lighter and seems to be pretty strong.

Loved it while I had it but would not go back. Mind you, there weren't alot of competitions back then.

Aside from it being the best looking fork ever made (2005 edition), I don't know if I'd call it best ever. It'll still hold it's own against all current forks for performance though (and beats most for ease of use and maintenence).

I had that fork on my A-Line. What a pig!

i think best fork ever has to go to the rock shox boXXer..

its simply been such a mainstay over the years for both serious DH racers adn for freeriders..

if i had to pick a Zokie fork i'd have to say the pre-03 Monsta's....dam near indestructible, and the weight wasnt to bad for the sheer strength they provided...

the 02 was not 13lbs, you're thinking of the new version from 03 onwards

I had an '02 Shiver on my Kona Stab and I definitely wouldn't say it was my favourite ... but I'm no DH racer, so perhaps it was being underutilized.

Fox 40 runs just as stiff and smooth but 3lbs lighter, and better external adjustability.

I am still looking for one...even the gold '01, I have three 01 monsters and their steering is better, but the shiver on my bros RMX seems to suck it up better (tuning?) I still want to try a Risse Champ with the Big Daddy upgrade.

Have to say shivers are the most beautiful forks on the planet (2003 or 2005 versions) beefy as hell yet with a subtle delicacy about them. Why the hell marzocchi thought it right to still produce monsters in 2006 and not shivers is beyoond me. But at the end of the day no fork has the general impact upon a bike in terms of upping the looks than that of a shiver.

Not enough time to type out entire post. Hightlights include: 7.5 inches, pounding, inverted lubrication, tested by italians, racey, can handle the abuse, works great when mounted on pretty much anything, and best of all, tend to burb after being ridden hard.

This is the second year of the Fox 40. That's plenty of time to determine how they stack up against the others.

03 Dorado - never felt a plusher fork. So much so have resisted the urge to cave into temptation with all these new fancy offerings. Love the look as well - Shivers were cool, but a carbon fibre inverted fork is dead sexier.

The great thing is OGC rebuild it every year for me for nix (until they run out of parts and patience).

I've an '02, 190mm. Awesome fork. Took everything, and asked for more.

Only stopped riding it because I got hooked up with something too good to pass up, when I scored my DH setup...
Shiver is sitting in the closet, waiting for my girl to be good enough to justify it going on her bikey.

Great fork I used an 03 shiver dc for 2.5 years but the 888 kills it. Its stiffer, has better dampening, everything is better except for rebuilds. The shiver is definitely easier to change springs.

Basically true, only very slight differences year to year.
