For those who can read norwegian:
Modifisert Rohloff? Derailleur-in-a-box? PeteSpeed?

are you saying that G-Boxx is new? or is that a new version? G-Boxx has been around for a couple years now. Although there are not too many bikes using it, yet...

For those who can`t read norwegian:
Karl-Heinz Nicolai is the designer behind the Nicolai bikes. He have been working with internal drivetrain for years. There are only a few company`s in this business who is working with this kind of things. And Nicolai is the company at the edge of this technology.
They are now releasing the G-Boxx-2, a 9 drive gear system that uses SRAM trigger shifters. They describe it as light, strong and efficient. But the also say it would demand little maintenance. And you could also change gears when pedalling hard. That’s something Rohloff have had problems in a few gears. It will also be able to change gears without pedalling. It will be possible to have gears in 42-11 to 32-24 ratio. This will suit DH riders perfectly.
There are only a few peoples who have ever looked inside the G-Boxx-2, and it would be nice to see what I actually contains. A modified Rohloff? Derailleur-in-a-box? Or a PeteSpeed?
What makes the new Version so special is the new mounting system.
The box is no longer welded to the frame as a structural part!
It has a "standardized" bolting pattern that is supposed to allow other manufacturers to develop frames/their own gearboxx around this system.
Also it now has lighter casing out of fibre-reinforced composite/plastic(?)
Some more information can be found on ridemonkey! there was a thread about this two weeks or so ago
Lets hope others jump on the bandwagon so we'll be able to have gearbox-bikes at a more reasonable price in future
EDIT: oh well that is basically what the add says :shame:
A few more things: as you can see(more or less) in the add it is designed around a concentric single-pivot design!
And theres a rumour about it beeing produced by suntour,as it seems to have the same features as the suntour prototyp (not realy)shown on interbike !

In the next two or so years its going to become pretty standard to have internal drivetrains i think. The only problem is the size of them and price at the moment.

therein lies the main issue with a design like this gaining widespread acceptance - it dictates suspension design & layout. integrating a frame mounted tranny with multi pivot suspension is a big hurdle. given the characteristic suspension designs of each manufacturer is (typically) the primary marketing factor, i don't see many companies changing them for the sake of better shifting. in the words of dave weigle: "derailleurs are going to be here for a long time". however, it does look like there's a couple other (small) companies on board with the new g-boxx system, so prices *should* be coming down. at the current price, g-boxx has minimal market viability:
