I'm thinking in about a month or so. Going to shop around for whats needed to finish it up, which include:

e13 reducers, need the lower bearings for my steelset, a 32 hole 12x135mm hub which will probably be the expensive odd piece then the wheel build and then the brake bleed.

And then of course I have to decide which tire set to run b/c you know, I cant mix up Intense's and Michie's, it'll look schizo... and stuff.

I havent put it on a scale yet but its not light either. Still, I'm thinking I should be happy on it.. at least I'm hoping.

Its almost been sold twice. I was offered more money from a guy in Wisconsin so its almost ready to go but now he's worried about brokerage. So now it may go to Quebec. Or not. Who knows. Hell I may even keep it on the wall for a future rebuild. I've had it longer than any gf :P

You can get a great Formula hub that is 12mm x 135mm, retails out of the Norco catalogue for $170. I just accidently ordered one for my V10, and had to enlarge the drop outs for it to fit. I believe its the DC36-1 or something along those lines. Its a through axle design that has a hollow axle with a QR skewer through it. So its a through axle, quick release hub ... But its light, strong and seems well made.

BEAUTIFUL!
I just put down a deposit on 2006 Splinter MX. I don't know if you have ridden one around yet, but they are simply AMAZING. I had a go on one set up at 4" / 4" and it was fantastic. I hit some pretty big stuff and did not bottom it out. Can't wait to try one at 6" / 7". The bike feels so solid - majorly confidence inspiring. It also gives you the feeling that you actually have to RIDE it as opposed to being a simple piont and shoot type of thing. IMHO, the perfect bike.

Nope, I was going to buy a stinky supreme frame and then found this. I still may buy it and sell this one actually. All depends.

Thats always good to hear. Given its a single pivot, I'm not so sure I'll feel at home after a year or 3 on the vps linkage. Time will tel.

I tested one of those for a day at a local resort...let's just say you'll friggin love it. I liked it as much as my downhill bike, even though it was strictly resort downhill riding. congrats on the new ride!

I always like to hear stuff like this :D One thing that kinda.. slipped my mind to ask was the age old dare I say, "brake Jack/squat/dive" feel? Noticeable?

Not really. As with all single pivots, stay off the brakes in the rough stuff and trust the suspension to do its work. I am pretty much a suspension noob (I ride rigid bikes all the time) and I had it pretty much dialed in the first few (very short) runs. The feeling is really similar to riding a rigid lightly versus trying to plow with it. If you are on the brakes, the bike feels like it has to work a bit more, although it still sucks up the hits. If you stay off, it feels like carrying momentum through. The bike never felt "locked out" at all, and being a rigid rider, I would know this feeling pretty well. It is scary how fast you can get going on this bike. It begs to be ridden hard. It works best when being hammered on.

The bike is just so solid and smooth, it is really hard to put it into words. I did back to back runs on the Splinter and a Faith and in my opinion it was NO CONTEST. The Splinter felt both much more controlled and stuck down - and that is a comparison between its 4" and the Faiths 7" of travel! - and more responsive. The Faith tended to suck up the first part of the hit, then "hitch" into the second part. Felt like a pause or bump in the middle of its travel. The Splinter was much more predictable IMO.

I am dreaming of pairing this frame with one of the new RS Totems. Assuming a travel adjustment is available, you get a 5/5 trail bike, a 6/6 FR bike and a 7/6 DH bike all in one!

You will love it.

seeing as how that doesnt exactly look like a production model, i bet you are right. Actualy, i bet at first it didnt have the seat tube gusset tube, then they decided to add it, then needed the extra room at the top of the tube for the clamp.

Yeah, that is the Splinter FR prototype. It no longer exists. The bike apparently ended up with a leverage curve that was not what FTW was looking for.

I'm waiting on the 2006 version of the same bike you have. From what I can gather there are a few minor tweaks, including some weight loss compared to the 2005. The geometry and handling characteristics will stay the same (according to FTW).

Post pics and a ride report when you are done building it!
