no i don't need saints. the rf northshores will be fine for now. plus, i'm not a hucker so i'd probably get the XT's.

do i need to switch hubs though? i thought you had to run the saint hub, derailler, etc. to run the saint brakes?

no, they give you the 6-bolt xt rotors and the center-lock rotors or whatever they're called

are they better than the juicy's? how much will they set me back? i love hopes the best, but sometimes its hell getting service or parts for them, so i'm looking at other options...

are you sure you're not from PB?

I got my set (front and rear, with levers) for just over $500. I like them more than Juicy's but that's just me, if you really feel the need for all the adjustments, then there's no other choice then juciys. I went for the brake with the most stopping power and didn't weight a ton (hope 4 and 6-pots=nono)

 well the grip shift was on there from before and i kinda like them. they shift really well. i'm gonna check out the saint brakes but only if they aren't super expensive...

really? i just find the hayes have no "feel" to them - it's like on or off. but i'm probably just so used to my old hopes with the wicked modulation. the hayes have power i have to admit. i really like having more modulation.

8" Juicy 5s go for $180 each. Way cheaper than all the other brakes listed. But just as good.

i never thought id see somebody say that. hayes generally....suck. well, not suck, but compared to saints, they do. Saints have awsome power and modulation, which is quite lacking in hayes.

Neo

i tend to ride mostly shore, so i'd sacrifice a bit of power for modulation and reliability.

Hayes were one of the best 5+ years ago, but that's because everything else on the market sucked. They haven't really changed their design in all that time, yet there are new players who have totally surpassed Hayes. Avid, Shimano, Magura, new Hopes, Gator, etc. Hayes aren't easier to bleed either - we all know how to do it by now!

I would swap out those brakes for a set of Juicy 5's, 7's, or if you're on budget, Deores or Louise FR.

Neo
03-04-2006, 10:25 PM
yea i'm liking the look of the juicy 7's and 5's.

If you had any faith in how your bike pedals, that is a dumb-ass statement.

I'd invite you to ride, but you are across the moat. Sellout.

ps: don't waste your time...get the saint brakes

I like it Dante. Looks good.

As for brakes, I run what I have on the bike cause I can't afford any better. But if I had the money, I'd be buying Juciy's for sure! Although, I have thought of stealing Elaine's XT 4-pot brakes, and putting the Hayes on her bike for some time now;)

Just out of curiousity, is that the original fork? Mine came with a firefly, not a flick, were the different sizes were spec'd differently?

Enjoy the bike!

my bad, it is a firefly. i dont know why i said flick.

Its funny thats what all the people who are still using hayes say.

"my vote is for hayes. Never tried saints but dont really care to since im happy with my hayes"

Except most of the time they will leave out the fact that they havent ever tried anything else.

I had Hayes for 5 years. Now I ride Saint and I'll never go back to Hayes (unless the come up with a new/better design).

Neo

well for now its gotta be hayes. the power is wicked. if i could get the pads from rubbing the rear disc i'd be happy.

so far i have used hayes, and juicys. maybe if i was spawnsrd and had shitloads of cash i'd have a set of every brake that's out there, however, i'm not and i dont, so i'm just offering my opinion fwiw.
