I am looking to get way back into shape this summer. Any girls out there training? I need some tips, some motivation and some encouragement to get off the couch and lose this 20 pounds, feel better and ride better.
I was going to use getting back into racing as motivation but I think I need a bit more.

My wife might be able to help you out. She's itchin' to get back out on the bike, plus she knows her stuff. I'm sure she'd love to out with you, but she's got to get back into shape too!

She just gave birth to triplets after spending 6 months pretty much bed-ridden = definitely her words.
Cheryl, she'd love that (I'm speaking for her again). I'm sure she'll be wanting to get back on the bike by mid-late March, so I'll get her to contact you. Cool?

Cheryl!!!
gym twice a week, lsd at least once a week, hill climbs once a week, sprints once a week, and a couple good trail rides twice a week should do ya good!!
pick a trail that you can shuttle a bunch and treat it like a race course - rehike sections that you didn't do very well, try different lines, etc... time yourself!
Monday - sprints...start with 8, 8 seconds sprints and progressively get to 8,30 second sprints over the next 2 months; let your hr come down quite low between each interval. 20 minute warm-up and cool down.
Tuesday - Gym - get a someone to take you through a workout; if you havent' been going, taker' easy!
Wednesday - hill climbs, fun, fun, barf...! Come down a technical trail if you can in between. start with 3 x 5min, and progress from there...
Thursday - gym
Friday - trail ride, shuttle
Saturday - xc, 2.5 to 5 hrs; eat lots, take a nap!
Sunday - Trail ride easy or take a break...sleep
i think that Wayne's woman (name???) and if you have a training partner for motivation and competition, even better!!
I took Danika up for 7 shuttles yesterday, and then she went to the gym...just to motivate ya'll...

Wow Jennelle that's what I needed to hear. And what a friend you are to shuttle Danika 7 times! Jeeezzzz..... and what a machine Danika is!
Is it worth training even though I am a shitty racer? I feel like I shouldn't bother sometimes!

Get fit first, everything else will follow. Start piling up the road/XC miles.

i was paying homage to the cycling gods, spending some QT with my friend...and taking a break cause i'm exhausted!!!
Please don't say that you are a shitty racer...if you want to race, you should, and it should be a positive experience. If you put effort in, you will see results. If you don't, you don't.
It obviously is sitting on the fore front of your mind, so why not cultivate that? What's the worst that can happen - you'll be in great shape, you'll feel healthy, you'll have to eat well, sleep, and all the while...riding your bike??? I say, train away! if you hate it, stop. if you like the results, keep going.
That's my opinion, but it's up to you!

Ya that's what I needed, some encouragement, some training tips and a training partner. This ladies forum is the tech, in half a day I had everything I needed. Where else do you get service like that?

Hey Wayne! Would your wife consider hitting the road with me too? I love road riding but haven't gotten out since I moved here.

I have been thinking the same thing - spring is here and I was supposed to be doing a ton of XC ski racing this year and that was going to keep me in shape- the season started out strong but I got busy with school and teaching snowboarding and well - now I am out of shape - and I want to try and race this summer - (I enjoy racing but I don't feel like I am very good either) so if I want to try and do thsi I should get serious - I guess I could get the road bike out - the roads are clear.... and hit the gym.... thanks for the motivation Cheryl

Glad to have helped. When are we going to see you down here in Kamloops for a ride? I know you are friends with Karly and she speaks highly of your riding!

Hey there girls! I have got the ultimate get fit routine... spend a few sundays with us fixing up the trails!
At first I didnt think that I could do much but anyone who can haul dirt or the smaller sized rocks can greatly add to the effort. We can also cut wood for stakes and make great counterwieghts. As a trail builder you have a say in how the trail gets built and the guys we've been working with are real team players and nobody gets left out. Check out the new stuff on Natural High, I helped on that! The little fern garden on the right side of the trail is my work. ( have to keep it pretty right!)
Im hoping to get up to Seymour Trails days April 9th and hope to see some chicks out there, I cant be the only one.
