Ok...so I've ridden Seymour and Seymour only. And the last time I rode the shore was over 4 years ago (took a little Road/Tri racing hiatus). Anyways, I'm getting back into the freeriding sport and I want to know where you guys prefer riding and why...Cypress, Fromme, Seymour, Burke, Woodlot etc etc.

cypress - kick you in the ass all-natural terrain. steep, rocky, rooty
seymour - more groomed lines, less steep, lots of stunts
fromme - a little of both, fair amount of woodwork on the right trails.
fromme is a nice pedal up if you want the cardio.
seymour is alot of shuttle whore-age in the summer.
ive always found fromme to be way more low key, and the people seem to be more chill.

Yes fromme sucks, don't go there. There is never any work done on the trails. Especially ladies only, upper oilcan and natural high, there hasn't been anything done to these trails and I think we should just let them die. And seymour is awsome! Trails like Neds is always good for a nice rip, its quite cool how many people can ride that trail with almost no erotion taking place. And that cypress bike park is off the chain. You shouldn't even consider riding the rest of the mountain but just the bike park.
Seriously though, all the mountains kick ass but I will only talk about things I know.
Fromme- I love fromme cause it relaxes me, i get more exercise and I enjoy the trails more due to how less people ride them because you have to hike/ ride up to get to the trails.
Seymour- Shuttler's mountain. The trails are fun but very populated making for a slightly more stressd atmosphere (potentially). The trails also need more matinence because of the amount of riders going through there.
Cypress- steep, knarly and a shuttle mountain also but not as shuttled because of the technical skill.
Cypress bike park- not too bad but there is limited terrain (they did just go through their first year and they were able to do good things in the time they had. If they will be open this year is up in the air because of olympic venue building in the bike park area.

yeah, I agree, I used to hate it 'cause of the ride up...but now Fromme and the woodlot r the places I ride most...
i think all three mountains on the shore have their merits and from what i here, the woodshed kicks ass, so it depends on what kinds of ride you want. the few times i've ridden cypress, i think it almost killed me each time, but the trails are so sweet. seymour is awesome too, cbc of course and corkscrew, boogieman, etc. the ride up the highway isn't bad and the view is nice, just gotta be mindful of traffic.
i just find i have the best overall experiences for my riding style when i ride on the trails on fromme - less traffic, nice atmosphere, old-schoolish, not to mention the amazing trails - 7th, oilcan, crippler, ladies, air supply, pipeline, espresso, grannies, lower ladies, groovla, etc. holy fack there's so many sweet trails. and you can easily do two or three ups and downs in one day.

Burke, It's got stuff as tehcnical if not more in a natural scene. Stick to the left side of the hill and forget all the crappy built ladders to the right. Upper to lower vics. Oldschool and fun. Shitty walk(or ride) up.

Squamish is where it's at ;)... The highlands have some amazing trails that'll both give you a great cardio workout and rewarding downhills... you can shuttle garibaldi for some great downhill... you can find it all up here, just buy a trailmap and be prepared to pedal your ass out there...
we have it pretty good here not to many places where you have 400 + amazing trails within a one hour drive of your house.

fromme would be the most fun shore mountian I have ridden, although I do like cypress from time to time. Cypress is actually better, but it's kicked my ass every time I have ridden it, but it definately keeps you on your toes.
The best ride I have done is the Paper Bag in Nelson. Pedalled up for a few hours from my house then descended for what seemed like forever. After all that descending it was time to throw the saddle back up and pedal back into town..gooooood stuff.

Fromme is, to my mind, the true North Shore riding experience. No shuttling, no shortcuts, you work your ass off for every foot of elevation. The reward for your effort is twisting, technical trails with great variety and plenty of stunts if you want them. Not to say Cypress and Seymour aren't fun, but Fromme takes the win in a side by side comparison.

Ok...
...Cypress, Fromme, Seymour, Burke, Woodlot etc etc.
In no particular order - yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. From what I've experienced, all of them have similar traits but each has it's own distinct flavor.
If I could live at the foot of any of those places, it would likely be Fromme...http://home.comcast.net/~avoight/wsb/media/60185/site1132.gifor maybe Woodlot?

Alot of people complain about the ride up Fromme - I used to hate it but if you do it regularly, its like fibre, it becomes your friend.
Def. the best mtn if you're riding solo - grab your iPod and some good music and its a great way to tune out the world for the afternoon - just pedal, get into a rhythm and enjoy the surroundings.

Hard for me to choose between these lines:
Fromme - Upper Oil Can to Crippler
Cypress - Hogans Firehose Family Guy
Seymour - CBC Pingu Pangor or Boogeyman
We're riding in paradise.

teflon_chook, i'm more into lower skull if i'm gonna hit espresso, less of a hike to it keeps the ride more continuous but this is your choise and lower ladies is a sick and super fun trail.
My fromme choise would have to be upper oilcan to... oh god i can't choose. Either pipeline (highspeed), espresso (everything from highspeed bombing to steep and tech) and a newer trail that is mostly natural rooty and old as oilcan, I did it recently and it was really cool to do as a fast rip and practice riding with roots at higher speeds. Then the lower trail would really be a toss up between lower ladies, lower skull or lower crippler but i mostly do lower crippler cause it has the stunts but each has its own with ladies being old school north shore and lower skull beeing steep and natural.
seymour is a must with cbc to most of the time corscrew pingu pangor and finishing it off with emperess wich is awsome cause it has the steep and highspeed. but i gotta occationally toss in the neds cause i get my highspeed fix and get really stoked on that but then i got a chance at the end with the ride out to relax and calm down.

My fav ride would have to be Chadsey lake ride. (BigSumas)
Park at locked gate ,ride to top 1hr+,go over the top down to the lookout ,look longingly at the Wack and Cheam mtn range/chilliwack valley.
Turn and go down to Chadsey past the turnoff you came from down.
at the lake stay on the West side of it and carry around to camping spots and sit for lunch.
warm day? we go for a swim.
S. side of lake we head s. and go down till you come out onto a new logging road, head s. which is left till you come out to TimeOut exit (1000feet or more)right S. side and go down to bakstad parking area ,backup to your car or ride home,if you were lucky enough to get a ride out.
I always bring a lunch and company,as this can be a long ride.
Where I learned to ride Chadsey can be steep and deep, but always oh so quiet.......
Sitting having lunch with a couple of buds,
talking bikes and vids,trails etc..
this is what it's all about for me.
sweeeet or what.
