Bringing them inside is not a option
Personaly Id ivest in an audable motion dection alarm if you have power at the shed.

i just keep my bikes in my room, they sleep next to me.
check with your house insurence. I dont think sheds are covered. I think garages are. a motion detector sounds like a good plan. yes, those seem like secure locks.

if you have a seperate insurance for your bikes, they are covered anywhere. shit if i came up short on a gap and cracked the frame it would be covered.if it fell out the back of the truck, it would be covered. basic house insurance "should" cover your bike being stolen anywhere but most limit the claim to 1k, that might not even cover ross's wheelset.they also won't cover if the bike is damaged because of your own actions. a seperate ryder is the only way to go.

Just put a couple really good locks on the shed, I thought my shed was safe, turns out I could open it 3 different ways with a flatblade screw driver. Now If I have to keep my bikes out of the basement I put them in our 40ft storage container. Its covered by insurance because we keep our stock for our buisness in it as well.

at my house, the previous owner, had a good length of steel chain installed in the concrete while they were pouring the cement in the garage. it works awesome.

If you want to get high tech you can run Infrared motion that run on batteries and will signal you vial 80211
but thats expensive and i think house insurance for the bikes is in order and just hope for the best with some good old fashion locks
You could make an anchor lock with u-lock lock to the bikes for cheap I would think.
I have 3 levels of security
locks on the door, then a ADT security system and then a 110 Lb Rottweiller
IF you get can get past all 3 then you deserve the bikes
just tell your perants u have to much $ invested in your bikes for them to be outside...
surely there is some place in teh house u can keep them...
i wouldnt trust my bikes outside unless i had a armed guard with a rabid dog on duty 24/7....

nah no question about bikes inside the house. never will happen. the cement ancor should be good. plus that chain..... I am getting sep insurrance on my bikes after. I dont know anyone who could make no noise while trying to break a Kyrpto NY chain.. the wheels wheel also b locked anyways.
and moving out would = no insurance. so im gunna not do that one. :) my sisters horse cost more then my bike why cant she keep that inside? hahah it wont work.

Can't you take your wheels off and hang it from the ceiling in your room or something? Stuff is never safe in a shed, even in the best of neighbourhoods, especially in the lower mainland. Remember, your lock may hold up, but they might wreck the rest of your bike in frustration when they can't get through the lock, so you're still hooped.
lock might be strong but it would only take a few minutes to cut the frame in half.
Rosscofat
02-25-2006, 07:21 PM
yes they can cut my frame in half if they want. so pretty much this will b fine.

what we use on the job site and our ladders where the only ones on site that didnt get stolen
you can run the chain through all parts of the bike then put the two ends into the puck lock
Saw this at Canadian Tire. Got to be one of the toughest locks out there, would have to cut the frame for sure. Oh and it has a $4000 anti-theft guarantee, although Im too lazy to read the fine print.

I had a problem with someone breaking into my car at night. didnt have a garage so my car was always outside. A buddy of mine gave me a remote motion senser which is silent outside but sets off an alarm inside. All you need is a battery for the remote senser, and you plug the reciever in and put it on your night stand. This would work good for you because the senser would be in the shed. In my case the senser would detect any motion around my car including cats so I was running outside every other night with 34 inches of easton aluminum trying to issue a beatdown that never happened. I would tell you the name of the manufacturer but I gave it back to my buddy.

so... its looking like inground cement shackle and then molly lock on the door with Alarm on the door.
You need Pee Wee Herman's bike lock and a clown to lock it up to.
Seriously though, no bike is safe outside. I've got my bikes locked up inside chained down to a structural beam.
Two options worth considering if your parents are dead set on not having your bikes inside the house.
1)Leave it at work. You work in a bike related setting, they won't mind having it around. You'll only have to take your bike home on the days you plan to ride...this should cut down theft opportunities to at least half.
2)Purchase a special bike locker. I believe I saw it advertised in Mountain Bike Action a few years back. It's a durable, nearly unbreakable locker that lies flat on the ground. It has a lockable door and looks to be very durable. I think the locker is made in Australia?

yes true.. I whink we just gunna put a massive steel beam blocking any entrance into prying the door open on the barn door side and then steel door on the other side.

I'd bet it'd be safer to not advertise to the world that you've got expensive bikes sitting in a shed in Ladner. I bet you're name (from which I could find address) comes up somewhere on the bb if I did a careful search of your 2,000,000,000,000 posts.

I call bullshit. Google maps shows the green roof shed at the back of the house. I can't see the wind statue.
But jeez, I wonder why your bikes keep getting ripped off... I'm starting to loose any pity.

Sooo, Master Anderson (assuming your dad is Erik). It doesn't scare you that 720 people now know your address and that you've got (or will have) expensive bikes in the shed?
I hope you've got good insurance.

they google map shows the wrong house it will show the house to the left of it or right.. cuz its messed up. green roof and wind thing is dead center ontop of it. and then we have pingpong table to the far right of that and no more trees in the backyard.
cant b bullshit. lol lots of ppl know my house already haha.

I too lock my bike up while it sleeps in my house. I've had it in the front hall-way in my house but it keeps getting kick out by my wife. Now, I have to let it rest in the basement where it's locked up in the cold, lonely basement. This displeases me. I enjoy it when my steed is kept warm and comfortable. Rubbing and caressing it once in a while when it's resting.
I love my bike like it was my second-born.

Rossco, I respect ya for what you believe, but...
There are alot of fucked-up, opportunistic people out there that don't give a shit about one's personal property and privacy. Do you really need the head ache that you've 'opened the door' to?
IMHO, yank this thead or edit it. I'm pretty sure your insurance company wouldn't appreciate your take on this either.

It's steal dude, not steel and you have to know that wasn't my point. I was just trying to put you in their shoes. Bikes and laptops are on the FBI's most stolen list and you are telling the 'WORLD' where to come get some.
Man makes security, man can break security.
Anyways, I'm hoping your Dad would share and approve of the same wisdom I'm offering you.

I brought a big steel tool drawer box, weighs about 200lbs empty and 500lbs full. I came with steel handles that I have a link of locks on it. As we built the shed we brought it in. When the shed was finished, as planned the tool drawer box wouldn't fit through the door.
Also try a shrub shrouded shed, viewable to you but not the street. and watch for one I hate, the ogling 'bystanders' that watch ya put it away.

I keep my bike in my garage, locked up to my dads steel workbench, with a bike guard lock on it, the cable is about 1" thick, and it goes through my frame and rear tire, any tools that could cut through it are in mt house, and we have an alarm, I also like in a neighborhood w/o too much theft but my system for locking it up works for me
when you lock it up, dont leave bolt cutters or a angle grinder or anything like that in sight, heard of people doing that and the thief useing the owners tools to steal the bike

Make sure you have a solid anchor to put your lock/chain through.
Use a couple chains and locks. It'll take you an extra 20 seconds to lock your bike up, but it will add a lot more deterence for any thieves. If you buy the locks from the same company, you can get them keyed the same.

Yesterday I saw one of those at a bike shop, and it was huge. Probably a foot in diameter. I always thought they were a lot smaller. Maybe they come in different sizes.
If you have a cement slab on the floor, it would be a good thing to use.
