Hey I know it's not a women's specific topic but have you girls seen the teaser for Roam?

http://www.thecollectivefilm.com/roam/index_roam.html

I know I can be a bit emotional but that teaser really moved me. It was really exceptional and I can't wait for the video.

I cannot count how many times that I have watched the Collective. If they can top that movie, which I am sure they can, I am going to have to buy two copies so that I don't burn through it.

Sweetness!

I just wrote in the ladies only... sorry!

Wasn't it incredible? Really great to see some quality filmmaking. Tired of the same damn music and shots for every flippin biking video.
Gotta say though, tired of watching guys. I know some fantastic female riders yet I can name only one video that has solely female riders. What gives?

Ya I'd like to see a few female sections from time to time. I know it's a point of contention with men but it's fun for me to see a girl ripping it up. And with the number of girls riding seriously now there may be a market too!
Actually I'd like to see a few more articles featuring women in magazines too! Like I mentioned before in another thread, Transworld was like a 50/50 split in snowboarding now. All in good time though....

Me too re: seeing more women in the vids. However, I LOVE The Collective - it's so incredible. It's actually a good film. Not just a bunch of guys hucking off big stuff to really bad tunes. This movie has variety, good music, and amazing riding. I can't wait to see Roam. :)

I'm a guy, and really guys, take a few chicks and AT LEAST stick in a bonus section for the girl rippers out there. Man, how will the sport grow without our ladies getting some reconition?

Especially the BC girls BUT, over here in Europe there's also the fair share of chick rippers.

Hmmmm, it would probably get more lady riders out to the Vid releases which would be a welcoming thought!

whatever, end of the day, just ride.

maybe if the girls put more time into understanding how the back scratching world of free-ride works they might make it into the scene.

eg: there are 2 girls in this thread that were in our vid last year, but no mention.

so how many vids put girls in? race vids do, and whoever shoots with hanna.....and P&B.

not this year tho...girls r gonna have to step er up if they wanna make the cut- just like the boys.

I wonder how you judge if girls are stepping it up? Like if they are stepping it up compared to other girls? Or compared to boys?

ya its tough fer sure.....plus I don't think females represent a large section of the buying market who I need to cater to make a living. yes it is growing but really giving it a 10% would be very generous methinks.

I think a large part of getting more women involved and thereby having a larger pool from which to "step it up" is in part by promoting the women who are already stepping it up. I don't know how many times I've come down after a run, taken my helmet off and had the girlfriends at the bottom come over and say something along the lines of "girls do this too?" ... its all about exposure and if women only see guys doing it - well the sad reality is that it makes it a lot harder to start riding - when I first started riding there was nothing more intimdating than showing up at the hill and being the only girl.

in todays day and age any girl that says "girls do this too" must live in a cave. Girls have been pinning in extreme sports for a solid 10 years now( in the public eye I mean). Snow/skate has had a major female contingent in the public eye for at least 5 yrs. X and Gravity games, Olympics have all given equal opportunity to ladies on TV. We have had female gravity athletes in MTBing for a long time, just ask Elladee Brown.

The point is that truly the only ones that want to see girls are girls. A good example was the X games halfpipe. Kelly Clark from the states killed everyone, she has stepped it up. She guages herself with men, and rises to the challenge not content to beat the girls. The canadian girl was an embarassment. Never even cleared the coping on her first hit. How do you make it the X games if you can't clear the coping on a pipe???

Until girls quit riding the " oh shes pretty good for a girl" wave, you will not see them in too many DVDs. Victoria Jealouse was in heaps of male dominated snowboard vids......why you ask??

She was just plain killing it, and that was almost 15 years ago.

Time to step up to the plate ladies. If ya don't wanna get smashed over and over again ya prolly won't make it into any movies. Thats what the boys do, and yes I do think girls are smarter.

Oh don't worry Corey, it's coming. Mountain biking is relatively new to the female contingent but the numbers are multiplying every year. I think you are right that girls are the ones who want to see girls in videos and if we only contribute to 10% of sales, then 10% in videos is fair for now. I suspect those numbers to be a lot higher in the next few years though.

I don't think we represent anywhere near 10% in videos ... not even close ...

(I think you may be right about that!)
