Okay, I just remembered that last season I ran my Demo in the upper position. This season, when I reassembled it after a month or so of it being taken apart, I couldn't tell which hole I was previously mounted on so I used the lower hole. I've been ripping hard for a few weeks now and, based on that recommendation that someone (sorry, forgot who) made I went (back) to the upper hole, thinking I hadn't tried it before. Well, now I remembered that I have.

So having extensive saddle time in each position here is the one that I think is better:

drum roll...

the LOWER one!

Yeah, the bike is faster, lower (hence better for skinnies), and way more capable on steep pitches.

I'll take the occasional tire-meet-seat rub on big hits, because that's the only disadvantage of the lower position I've found so far.

Booooo!

The upper bolt postion - higher bb, steeper head angle, shorter w/b rules for freeride!

I have tried both. I prefer the higher BB position over the slack head tube angle. I don't race and never plan to.

Its a matter of choice.

The reason I made the switch was because I was pedalling hard into a step up, and due to the low BB position, my pedal slammed into the ground at high speed. Ruined a pair syncros pedals, destroyed a bottom bracket, snapped the chain and ruined a rear x.9 deralleur. Over $600 in damage because of the lower BB position setting. Not to mention almost killing myself riding on my top tube sideways into a step up .... luckily I stopped before I hit it.

Changed the setting immediately, and loved the feel. Both positions have their advantages and disadvantages. Thats the best part about the demo 9 .... in essence you really have 2 bikes.

I guess it comes down to a matter of choice. Thats the main reason I switched and would never go back.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but after riding the high bb position for 6 months when I switched, it seemed like my suspension bottomed out a lot easier. Different leverage ratios?

The lower position does ride way better in my opinion, especially with low ride crowns (or a fork thats not a 888). but like jonny zee said, it DOES bottom out more. It has a more linear rate in the lower setting. I countered this by running more high speed compression and dialing in my bottom out. Definitely worth not having have to ride a hella tall and steep bike!

I HATE the upper position!!
