One of my lastest dreams is to build up one of those frames as a do it all bike. Maybe oneday when I have a bit of money Il do it something like this. Most of these parts are personal favorites.

Kona Howler frame
Pike team
Marzocchi Roco RC
Avid Juicy 5
Raceface Evolve bb+cranks
Atomlab DHR hoops, Aircorp hubs
FSA pig dh headset
Titec El'Norte bar stem and seat post
Nokian NBX 2.5 Tires
Velo Camo Dj seat
Sram X9 drive line.
Oury grips

Would be a fun bike.

Looks like a great do-it-all-bike. Mine:

Frame: Trek Session 7 or Remedy 66
Fork: Pike 454 U-Turn
Brakes: Juicy 7s
Cranks: Holzfeller
Wheels: Hadley Hubs, Mavic Ex823 Rims, Tubeless 2.5 Nevegals
Headset: Chris King Threadless Headset
Stem + Bar: Holzfeller
Seatpost: Thomson Elite
Seat: WTB Rocket V
Shifter etc: X9
Pedals: 5050xx

about 34-35 lbs and 4500$.

I dont know if Id mix a Rocco and a Pike. You should think about a Pike and a Pearl.

My "budget dream all-mountain build" (nice enough for me without costing like 6 grand)would be a

Giant Reign 15" frame 6" travel

Z1 FR2 fork 6" travel QR20...I have this fork now and I couldn't be happier

Single Track/Rhyno Lite/Alex MX-22 rims, whatever's cheapest

Comfy freeride seat- not a piece of wood with 5mm of padding shoved in between your legs

Holzfeller stem, bars, cranks- lighter and generally better than Hussefelt
Howitzer BB

X.7 drivetrain...why go X.9? the only difference is a few grams.

Avid Juicy 5 brakes maybe...I have had Hayes 9's for a long time and they are fine though.

I'm sure that spec is nothing special but I don't need all that fancy stuff. I'm pretty happy with my current bike anyway.

im not trying to be a smart ass, but have you riden either for any good amount of time? Im just curious as i have heard little about both shocks. Ive heard plenty of stories on the Rocco, but not much real world.

If I could do it all again. My dream duallie would be the old RM Pipeline for a do it all duallie.

Enduramil you read my mind. I love that bike. there is just something about it. if i had to pick a new frame it would have to be a SX trail with some sort of custom manitou in the back and then a nice travis up front.

I'm already riding my dream do-it-all bike.

Just needs a Juicy 5/7 brakeset, Evil SRS/MRP Slalom 3 guide, and a Hadley to 729 rear wheel and I'm set.

werd.

I just got a tip on a set of Hope M4's that i may trade for my hope mini's so my bike will be done soon i hope. Oh, and i may try and work out some kind of chain retension system, but im in no rush for that. So yea, im already on my dream ride. :)

$699 USD MSRP

I like how you can run the Cowan frame as a dually singlespeed (FS SS?). I dunno how useful it is but its different

Kona's blow goats... Boing Boing Boing brake jack boing boing boing brake jack...
When was the last time you rode one? Id love to own a Kona/Trek/Transition style fully for a freeride bike they feel great. Reason I picked the howler is because its kona's equivalent to a norco 4by which I find kinda neat, just kind of does something for me. I dont know if I would actually run a Roco because they are just coming out and I havnt heard anything about them besides the price which isnt bad. Maybe one day il build this thing up, but for now im building up a .243.

First of all I've never seen a Kona do that to a goat, but then again maybe we live in different parts of Portland. Have you ridden on a newer one 04 or newer. I have an 04 and I haven't experienced either of those problems.
