Less travel and lighter? Would be interesting to see the weight on that frame. Wayne, bust out the baby scale please.

Wayne P

6.3" vs. 7.7" on the V-Tach.

This one is on the heavy side, its 11lbs on my scale, but it is a sample. Noel says for production his target weight is under 10.

That shock won't be a choice for production.

yeah if the weight comes down to where Noel wants it'll be a winner.

as it stands doesnt seem to be that much lighter than the vtach

that looks quality Wayne, but i've got to say it very heavy for only a 6.3" travel frame.

you have to remember though, travel numbers dont always measure capability. My balfa 2-step has just over 5 inches but can take as much abuse as many longer travel bikes. I would be willing to bet this bike it the same way.

so what's the difference between the v-tach and the delerium?

Hey Syncro:

Sorry if the following sounds like an advertisment but should hopefully answer some of your questions!

The V-tach is our full on free ride bike - designed to play in the big-boy world of free ride bikes. If your idea of a "proper" fork is a Marz 888 (or DH40, Travis or Boxxer), then this is the frame for you. Specs are here: http://www.knollybikes.com/vtach.html

The Delirium T is one of two new frames that we're bringing out for 2006. It is geared to be an aggressive all mountain frame that can do double duty as a light weight free ride and slope style bike. It is really designed to work best with 6" forks like the Marz Z1, the Fox 36 and the Manitou Travis single 150.

However, the Delirium T can be built up lighter or heavier duty as well. It will be perfectly happy dealing with a little more heavy duty forks such as the Fox 36 Van, a Marz 66 or even a Boxxer Ride. Equally it can be set up light duty with a Nixon or a Marz AM1.

Typical build weights will be around 32-38 pounds depending upon components. The stock frame setup is the "lighter duty" setup and includes regular 135mm QR dropouts and a Fox DHX 5.0 Air shock. A 135 x12 mm through axle setup (shown in Wayne's pictures) and coil spring shocks (Fox DHX 5.0 coil or Marz Roco) are optional.

Other features are:
-160mm (6.3") of travel
-Target weight: about 9 & 1/4 pounds with air shock
-Super short 16.4" chain stays (adjustable up to 17.2" in length)
-2.7" tire clearance
-dropouts (disk mount / derailleur hanger) that are fully replaceable and move with the the rear wheel
-Full length seat tube
-Low 2.5:1 leverage ratio suspesion
-Class leading lateral rigidity (same bearing & axle system as the V-tach, but with lighter duty frame parts)
-1.5" head tube to run any appropriate fork on the market
-Three position head angle ajustment (68.0, 67.5 and 67.0 degrees with a 6" travel fork) allowing specific set up for all mountain or free riding
-And our unique four x 4 linkage allowing us to make X-small frame sizes for those ripper grrls out there!

Our website is currently being redone, but won't be finished for at least 4-6 weeks. It will have all of the Delirium T frame information on it, but in the mean time feel free to ask either Wayne or myself any questions. Delivery for the Delirium T should be around the end of April.

Cheers!

Noel Buckley

Things are looking really good - we are just in the process of signing off on the final design this week. We'll have some new prototypes coming out in the next few weeks as well. Everything is going "According to plan" so far :)

And hey - I have to say my buddy lent me the 1st season of BSG - that show rocks. I've been watching the second season now (thanks bit torrent!) and it is very very cool. Best TV show I've seen since Band of Brothers.

Cheers,

Noel

Looking good though. So are you actually going to get to ride your new fancy bikes, or just weigh them on your baby scale?

Noel, your stuff coming along great. Much, much nicer than the other Vancouver new kid on the block bikes, banshee, HUKK(chuck):stupid: PDCs are pretty nice too though.(yea I know they're from the island) . How about a race bike? I know "somebody's" tried with your design, maybe you could get it right..

Looking good Noel...if you need a tester for a proto frame..cough...send one my way. I have been drooling over this bike for a while now....can`t wait to see the final product. I need a replacement for the dirtbag and this is at the very top of my list (my wife on the other hand thinks I am nuts).

Ya, the local bike manufacturing scene is certainly busy! I think that it's great to have a bunch of different companies here: just look at it:

From a "big company" stand point, you have Rocky Moutain, Norco and Racefcae and Kona certainly has a presence. On a slightly smaller scale, you have Banshee, Cove and Brodie .243 and Syncros to some degree. In the boutique area you have Knolly (us!), Chromag, Dark Cycles, Hukk, PDC, DeKerf, and other builders as well as a bunch of smaller component companies too (danger boy, NS billet, Envy, Bonz, Black Spire, Chromag, .243). I'm sure I've missed a bunch as well...

It's pretty cool - We have service centers for Manitou, Progressive and Marzocchi in town - no where else apart from California has that - that is all because of the riding scene here. And then there are the events like Crankworx, as well as all sorts of other media events not generally known to the cycling public.

In terms of a race bike - I take it that you mean DH race? There're some preliminary designs in the works but don't expect to see anything for a LONG time. After the Delirium T and the Free Radical are in manufacturing, we'll be concentrating on a 5.5" trail bike and a DJ / Street frame to be out for '07.

Cheers!

Noel

Hey Syncro...

thnaks noel. i ws curious becuase at fist glance it does not look very differnet from the v-tach. i was wondering if there was going to be a significant weight savings between this bike and the v-tach. i have just built up an sx trail with the dhx air and van 36rc2 as my all purpose bike. strong enough for 6ft'ers all day but light enough to climb the chilcootins. when the sx heads out the door i will have the delerium on the short list.

Yes, the frames do look similar, but the Delirium T has about 70% completely new parts from the V-tach. You are exactly right: in the weight and application category, the Delirium T is going to compete directly with frames like the SX trail, Chaparral, Norco Six and the Turner Six pack / RFX, but be more heavy duty than the lightweight 6" bikes like the Nomad, 6.6 etc...

Rear shocks aside, there is about a 2.5 pound weight difference between the V-tach frame components and the Delirium T frame components. An air shock will take off an extra pound as well making a DHX Air equiped Delirium T about 3.5 pounds lighter than a stock V-tach frame with a DHX Coil shock. Travel is 6.3" vs. 7.7" and the head angle is a degree steeper at 68 degrees.

Cheers!

And with a price to match but what the hell you play for quality and are treated (by a small company) as an individual and not a number and i respect that in companies.
