Any of you guys ride any randonees? I started 2 years ago and am getting pretty amped about this season. The shortest official ride is 200km and they go up to 1200km. There is a minimum and a maximum time allowance but is definately NOT a race. The last person across the line is held in the same regard as the first, or even those that have to abandon.

On April 2 there's a populaire which is open to anyone. There's a 25km, a 50km, and a 100km route. You can ride fast. You can ride slow. Its a good time.

Check out the BC Randonneur website at http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca for rules, photos from past rides, dates of upcoming rides, etc.

I've never done a randonee. I would like to try a 200 km one day. I did the populaire last year. Taking about an epic ride. Rain, cold and 5 degrees. I was shaking at the control stop in Richmond. Half way through the ride I was having trouble shifting. Can't wait to do it again this year. :D

thebigchin, have you ever done Tour BC? I've done it the past two years. A lot of randoneers do it.

There's a group of guys from the bikeforums.net road section who plan to do the STP (Seattle to Portland) century in one day... I think it's around 210-220k. Last year they started at 5am and got into portland around 7:30 or 8 at night. If you're interested post any questions here:

I've done a couple of 200s and a 300. I commute by bike, but other than that, do very little training. The 200 was pretty easy. Took me about 9 hours and I felt pretty good after it.

Never done Tour BC, but I just delivered a bunch of brouchures for it. Looks like a good time! I'll be paddling on the NW coast of Vancouver Island during this year's Tour BC, tho.

I saw the brouchures yesterday at MEC. Too funny, my buddies and I are on the back of it. There's a picture of a group of guys riding up a climb. I'm right in the middle of the group at the front.

Done the populaire a bunch of times as I work with one of the guys from the organizing club so a bunch of coworkers do it.

I agree, the weather last year was rather dismal!

So the Pacific Populaire is this weekend. Who's doing it? I going to wait until the last minute however I'm pretty sure that I will be show up for it.

Pretty sure I'm in. I'll ride in showery weather but not big on 4 hours of constant rain. Will make final call on Sat eve...
