View Full Version : UBC Thugs
Be on the lookout for a group of 2 rather large guys who are on bikes with large backpacks.
They are sneaky, they will ride up to a bike rack and pretend to lock up the bike, and then proceed to work on the target.
I had my Cove Stiffee raped yesterday here on campus and all that they left was the frame and tires.

Brutal. Sorry to hear that. Can't you take your bike into the office?
No I wish
I am with the UBC Hospital so no dice
they have secure racks behind fences but due to construction they are being used for tool
storage for like over a year now

At least your most important part is still kickin' though...Pretty odd to leave tires but no wheels, eh?
The description you gave is rather basic and probably pretty common around the campus but then again at least you know...
Good luck on getting your parts back.

Tires = wheels to me. yeah I lock the back to the frame/rack and the front
wheel to the frame so they could not take that

You "can" possibly save your entire bike with a heavy-duty U-lock and those mega cables.
Lace the cable through everything and then lock the 2 ends together with the U-lock onto the rack. A hefty haul but should be pretty theft-repellent...
I wish....
I have crazy u locks
locks wont save disc breaks and shit like that but now I have the solution
There is a company that makes custom heads on bolts for you and only you
so once you screw everything in your set.
But then again if a Thief wants your shit he will get it.
I have been at ubc 5 years and for me this is the first so not bad....

Any idea on what the comapnies called these custom headbolts sound pretty usueful for dettering chavs in the uk. But im not following why are they not just taking the entire bike instead of components i can see it would be easier and youve got less chance of getting them back but it seems pretty low profit to do this?

If you have space for a second bike at home...pick up a second hand xc...I have a norco mountaineer just for that. you can great some great deals if you're patient (100 or less not much more than a super fancy lock) and still have fun with it on your ride in. NO LOCK WILL SAVE A NICE BIKE, consider yourself lucky. I speak from too much experience.

Just bring your own lock that fits, put your bike in the box and lock it up.

If you already haven't, do this...I will keep a look out for them.
PS, they don't accost bikers do they, and try to pilfer right from them; they abscond (after pilfering) instead, right?
