Hop 'em.
But I road ride on a GT XCR 4" by 3" dually. I can't imagine how anyone rides those skinny wheels on roads. How do you take short cuts through the neighbourhood trails?

Ride over them at speed. I usually stand up.

I just stay light on the bike rolling over the "smoother" ones. For the rutted-out crossings I tend to hop/gap 'em if I have speed on my side.
I tend to have issues with the painted crosswalks/roads.:o

hit them at speed at a 90o angle, be light on your front tire, but keep it straight.

I hop most of the time, sometimes ride real 'light' over top.

Hit them at speed, hop the front end...
Just don't try taking tracks at a funny angle unless your bunnyhop technique is really good. Has anyone else encountered newly refurbished crossings that don't use wood, but have a black rubber/plastic material in the gap between tracks? Slippery stuff on a rainy day with bald 120psi 23mm tires.

i slow right down and unclip one foot. im not comfortable to go over the tracks at speed and i watched two peeps on my last ride try and bunnyhop the tracks and they both flatted and one guy dented his rim.

Kim Steed throws a nice flatty table off anything he can on his road bike. Silly bastard.
Typically bunnyhop. This caused some problems last time I was riding my fixed gear.....long skid to curb crash. But when freewheeling, ya I hop them. Just carry lots of speed and keep it low. It isn't so much a big hop as a quick pull on the front bars and let the rear end come up with your feet. It goes smoothly enough most times. Freaks out the people drafting you too.

did my first railroad track hop in while riding in a pack this Saturday...took a few people by surprise, but i figure it's part of my hop training. i would be scared to attempt that in the wet tho'. I also climbed Cypress Saturday morning on the road bike; it was weird to be climbing it watching truck loads of bikes pass me cause at this time last year i was probably driving up for a shuttle thinking to myself; "Look at those crazy roadies...that looks like it hurts."
Aaahh...welcome to the world of shaved legs, bad sunglasses, sore crotches and colourful spandex...

run cross tires and you can gap tracks, and rail ditches, watch the peleton oooo when you shortcut em thru a ditch.
roost em on the way out in yer baggies......then pull over for a rest. call for truck.

and colourful spandex...
bike shorts should ALWAYS be black! ever changed a tube after a long descent, with brake powder all over the rim? :D
Here is another reason why black shorts are always a good idea, observe...

Didnt there used to be a fine against using any color but black shorts in the TDF for resaons of the shorts looking bad from dirt ?
obviously there are other reasons
haha, Italian would make sense; just look at their football (soccer) jerseys. But I think they are Polish :poland:

You guys are missing the point. Female roadies have permission to wear any colour shorts that they see fit. Especially white.
