From the end of October to the first rays of sunshine in spring, I sit around on weekends watching the latest vids and moaning to my girlfriend about not riding regularly. While we are a crew that rides 20+ days at Whistler and 20+ days on the Shore in the summer, we don't have a love of coming home cold, muddy and wet on a regular basis. We tend to not ride much in the winter season.

We've been talking about buying hardtails with 5" of front travel (P2/P3 or Sasquatch) and riding street and urban in the off season to improve our skills and stop the whining. In keeping with our lack of love of crummy weather, we would prefer to not have to travel around town in the rain looking for urban sweet spots ala our old teenage skateboard years.

We're also a little older now and out of touch with the local skate scene. Where are the good street parks that we could ride our bikes at that can be ridden on nice days without getting drenched? I noticed that there is a park near GM Place when going to hockey games - is that a place that a biker can get into?

Any direction from the street crowd would be greatly appreciated.

check out feeblebmx.com
they have a list including directions of everypark in the Vancouver.
and with the street spots, thats more of something you have to find yourself, everybody has their own idea about a good spot, and secret spots are called secret for a reason.

Well here is my two bits.
Always check the Ride Planning and Tales section of the forums. In there you will randomly find a thread called "Friday Night Urban" If the weather looks promising, you can usually find this thread popping up, and in there you'll find out where the urbanites meet up, it's usually around 7:30pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery in Downtown Vancouver. Join up with the posse, and they can show you around, and maybe fill you in on tidbits in the city. I sometimes go, but lately I have not been in it.

Millennium skatepark can be poached with zero hassle late at night or early in the morning, but the whole joy of urban, to me at least, lies in the exploring just as much as the actual sessioning. It's kind of weak to say "Can you go out, get wet, and find some stuff for me to ride?"

If by nice, you mean pretty crappy, then yeah, you're right.

Andy disagrees.

Get your cities right or go back to Dinkbike. We are in Vancouver not Calgary.

I don't have a Pinkbike account, but I do live across the street from "Skate Plaza" and have heard it referred to as "Millennium" by my neighbours. :)

^^ its the 'plaza' and its not bike friendly. And monkeybutt get out there in the muck and wet, it's tough getting out there but once you're out in it its fun as hell. Seems a little funny a mountain biker not liking getting dirty.

Have done plenty of mucky, dirty rides over the years and don't mind getting dirty it's just that coming home wet and muddy ride after ride after ride isn't really our thing. Also, the missus frowns seriously upon wet and dirty bikes in the house (which is where mine goes).

Thanks for the tips. I'll check out the referral sites and see what's up.

That is one wicked website. Thanks tons for the referral. I see there is a new park going in at Quilchena, a 5 minute pedal from my place.

Uh, that park has been done for a couple months. There was a thread about it on here.

"Skate Plaza" if you want to argue semantics, and it's pretty bike-friendly late nights and early mornings when there's nobody there but sleeping homeless people. :)

..i wasn't really trying to argue, just make a correction. If you were to talk about the millenium park most poeple would think you're talkin about calgary. And all skateparks are bike friendly when no ones there. I hear the Jax patrol the skateparks at night??haha
