You can get 2 hadleys (front and rear) and two mavic rims, 64 spokes and nipples and taxes for 500 bucks....?

I doubt it.

At Bikeroom (as Grey as it gets)

The Hadleys are $440 for just hubs. $150 front $290 rear
the rims are $120 each.
and lets call it an even 60 bucks for spokes and nipples.

Then add 7% tax and you get $800

I didn't include shipping.

and thats online on the Grey market.

One Hadley hub at full retail (Rear) is like $500

Hugi's are tagged at $599 full retail.

I like the way JSinclair not only disputed peachy-b's statement, but actually ran through the online price breakdown.

i beleive u call that being "PWNED"...

:woot:

p.s. outa those 2 choices i'd prolly go for the DTswiss hubs. but both sets of wheels would be kickass wheelsets.

PWNED eh? well u see i'm just connecting Cove-rider's comment on the other Syncros hubs posting to this one, which he started the same day after having made the post. If what he was saying is correct... he's looking for replacing his rear. SOOOO.... my assumption was just for the rear. so i'm in the ballpark. BBBBLLLPP!

ps: I just bought a Hadley rear hub, DT spokes, and syncros rim 6 mons ago. i should know roughly how much it cost me.

GO-RIDE.COM
hadley 12mm (260 USD) + Mavic 729 w/ free spokes (100 USD) = 360 USD (x 1.2 exchange) = 432 CDN

will the hadley be the 108 engagment or the 36?
if it is the 36 i say go with a dt, and just get the nicer hoop, but dont be fooled, 823's are not all that strong.. mines got a nice dent..

I'm not grinding on you or anything Peachy...but you'll notice the Plural of both Hadley's and Hugi's as well as the rim choices...that is what led me to the X2 factor.

Hadley's, Hugi's, DT Swiss, King all make great hubs. The service I recieved from Hadley was amazing. If you have the bones, by all means go Hadley.
I have a hadley that I have not touched at all for 3 years on the front of my big rig. No questions, no problems, just flawless amazing performance.

I think Nelson built up some wheels with 823s and Hadleys. Ask him if he'd buy them again. 729s are prolly stronger since they are heavier and contain more material.

Ian built his wheels on 823 with hadleys. AXX on the board. deemax is only 28 spoke and 823 is 32

I've got 721's with the ghetto tubeless set up. I might get some 823's next season, but i'm super happy with the 721's.

Same rims, different drilling pattern.

I run the 823s and they're great. I'm running a D3.1 on the front (from before the Mavic name change). I replaced the rear D3.1 last summer, but only to move to a Hadley laced with an 823. Since then there have been no issues. The hub needed a little tightening up, but a monkey can do that.

Rat, you've seen me ride -- I go like that pretty much all the time and the rim's still going (the same front from when I last rode with you, the back's still good to go). I'm not a hucker though... But if I wasn't running UST tires, I wouldn't have a preference between the 823 and the 729. Both solid choices.

Can't comment on the DT Swiss FR hubs, although I have some of the company's hubs on my xc bike and they're great.

If the wheels are going on your G-Spot, then I would think of
Chris King hubs as well. They are in the same price range as
the Hadley's and DT Swiss/Hugi FRs. I run Chris King hubs on
my G-Spot, and have had a great experience with them.

That said, I think you'll be satisfied with any of these hubs. They
are all well designed and constructed. If you like to tinker with
your gear and do your own tune-ups, the King and DT Swiss hubs
have great instructions online. I've heard that Hadley will send
out instructions if you ask, but they currently don't have a web
site.

When you decide on the hubs you want, I'd suggest giving
Dave Bowes at the Deep Cove location of Cove Bikes a call.
He's a good guy, and very helpful. He rides the DT Swiss
Hugi FR hubs on his bike, and I'm quite sure he likes them.

I hope this helps,
Dave

I had an 823 in the rear (on a Hadley) and I replaced it after a few weeks. Nothing had gone wrong but i could tell that there was no way that it was gonna be a reliable wheel. It seemed like it would need to be trued every couple weeks. I think it would be a nice fron rim though. If anyone is looking for one, PM me and I'll give ya a good deal. otherwise I'll keep it for a front wheel later

The 823 is a great rim. It will all depend on your build - learn to do it yourself and you'll get a great wheel. I had no probs with a rear one all year on a Ringle. The 3.1 (the previous incarnation) did not fare so well last year, but that was a factory built wheel. For the kind of riding the 823 are made for, you will get dings - I didn't, but usually you can count on it.
