So I got up this morning and headed up cypress for some boarding. It was such a nice day, with no lift lines, and not tooo much ice. Excuse the crappy picture quality, I took them with my cellphone.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b21/Nelson_r_m/13-12-05_1520.jpg
Then it got dark and i headed to the terrain park. Firt box I hit was ok, but then the curved box sent me falling to my back, and i tried to brace myself with my arm. SNAP! I hear my wrist collapse on me and call out to a patrol that i need some medical assistance. 5 minutes later, the frendly and familiar face of Barb Haley (http://bb.nsmb.com/member.php?u=24276) is coming towards me on a snowmobile. Barb was amazing in getting me all splinted up, and kept my mind off the pain by talking bikes with me. After a couple hours in the bar waiting for a ride and watching the game, my dad picked me up and dropped me off at Royal Columbian. After looking at the x-rays, they found that my wrist was completely snapped. but also shifted upwards. and needed to be re-aligned. So they injected some milky stuff through the IV and next thing I knew I was awake with a cast on and feeling hungover. Doc says i'll have the cast off in 8 weeks, but that i wont be back on the bike for a good 3. :( Anyways, i'd like to thank Barb for doing an amazing job, and the doctors at RCH for all the fun drugs. Hopefully I'll see all you guys on the trails in the new year :)
Cheers,
Nelson.
P.s. We keep it real with the IV horns around here...(cell phone pic again, sorry.)

Well Nelson you can still partake in your 2 other favorite passtimes jerking off and drinking. Just not at the same time.
Its funny Im standing at Midway bored out of my mind (working midway seems to always be like that). And Nelson goes up and I never see him go down, and then a skipatrol skidoo heads up. A while later nelson walks up wearing a cast.

Bummer, man. I know how you feel as I've been there myself 3 times.
On a postive note - you'll be back in time for the warm weather, longer days, and the Ripper.
Suggestion: get a fibreglass / goretex cast. So much nicer than plaster!

Actually I was in VGH last Wednesday getting yet another kidney stone (#4) blasted to bits. There was a Doctor being treated I think just after me. Sitting in recovery he was on his phone talking to his own patients etc. The nurses said it was OK. I was pretty fucked up from the sedative for around 20 hours. I tried to do something that evening but I could not write properly. Words were being skipped missplaced spelled wrong (more than normal) . Can't imagine what kind of advice a sedated doctor was giving.

sorry about the accident nelson . . . too bad they had you knocked out for the realignment , you missed out on some great wrestling with the nurses .
like a bike shop you think they got some magic special tools for working on your baby , unh unh , just straight muscle and elbow grease to get things the way they should be .

I've got this plaster one on until monday when they'll make sure its healing ok. Then I can get the goretex cast put on. Theres no way i'm getting stuck taking baths for 2 months.

Heal quick so you can ride.
Remember don't get her now. Wait a bit till she forgets and then get even. It's always less hassle when their gaurd is down.
Learned that from dealing with my brother.

yup, I actually worked on changing VGH policy when I worked there in '03 on an Engieering Co-op. The policy was a throwback from the brick phone days, where they put out like 3 Watts+ and kicked off some equipment. (mostly Ventilators) It can still happen with some Walkie Talkies that the firemen have, as they are stilll pretty high power, (i think).

I went in for surgery on wednesday. The end of my raduis, as i'm sure you remember, was broken and twisted so far back that even after the original re-alignment in emergency it wasn't going to heal properly. The doc said that if I didn't get the surgery I'd have arthiritis before I hit 25. So right now i've got two Titanium pins/rods going through the top of my wrist, the broken end, into the bone. Theyre sticking out past the skin so that they can yank them out on January 3rd, where I'll get my 4th cast, that I'll wear for another 4 weeks. Its not too painful, and I can drive no problem now.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas, and that your New Years is a blast.
Take Care,
Nelson
P.s. this is what the xrays look like

Well Nelson you can still partake in your 2 other favorite passtimes jerking off and drinking. Just not at the same time.
Well it finally came off a couple days ago along with the pins holding it together (Which WERE NOT titanium, they're just steel, I was dissapointed to say the least). I'm back to double fisting bad beers and roping in the ladies. Hopefully I'll be back on a bike in a month of so.

Edit: I bumped into Hooker Stewie at the royal last night and he finally paid off his summer beer debt to me in shooters. Good times.

Yeah, and wuts up wid the Kokanee Nelson?
Microbrew or import laddie...ya don't want to go down the road of Labatts or Molsons like that. Beer drinking can be so much more...you just have to raise your standards.
I prescribe an immediate switch to Okanagan Spring beers, at least you can avoid pasteurization. Then we can move on to the proper pint featuring a Fuller's ESB or at least a tall can of Boddingtons.

I already pointed out that they were bad beers, but they were free and given to me. Those who know me know that i'm a sleemans guy....silver creek when possible.
Cameron: No idea whatsoever, but I get it alot now so it's not a huge deal anymore...

I just picked up a tall can of sapporo. I'm building up quite the collection.
welcome to the club. I fractured my radius (arm bone) a month ago boarding on Grouse. I get my cast off on Monday thankfully, but it will be a few weeks still before I can hit the slopes again.

"they were free"
Okay then...that actually is an acceptable excuse. Free beer is good beer. But if yer payin...well, Sleeman's ain't bad, but not a lot of flavour happening I find with their stuff. Kinda Micro-brew Lite.

I'll stay away from the slopes. It's fun, but I tend to get the snot beat out of me whenever I go 'boarding. I scare myself enough on the bike anyway!
