It was suggested to me from one of the guys that we should compile a list of the events/organizations that get women into riding.
Since a lot of guys ride, and they would like to get their SO's into riding a list of organizations would be a good resource for them and for their SO's to learn about the options out there.
MTBGal, I'm sure you can start!
Start listing them here and I'll compile them afterwards and make a sticky.

my 2 cents...
over a 3 year period i have taken womens only, dirt series, and endless biking. both womensonly and dirt series were excellent (and fantastic for beginners), however i'm going to stick with endless biking for the time being as their classes are fairly small and i think you get a bit more personal instruction that way.

Womens Only (www.womensonly.com (http://www.womensonly.com)) was what changed me from the very casual rider that I used to be, to being passionate about riding. I took a few classes with them a few years ago and then did the Sugoi Dirt Series (www.dirtseries.com (http://www.dirtseries.com)) last year. This year I also did the Hotwheels course with Corridor Club (www.corridorclub.com (http://www.corridorclub.com)) - the same Hotwheels course that Endless Biking (www.endlessbiking.com (http://www.endlessbiking.com)) does, I believe they run the course together.
Womens Only is great for getting women out on a regular basis over a number of weeks and more gradual progression. Dirt Series and other weekend camps are great for quick progression over a short period of time.
I think in the future I will stick with Corridor Club and Endless Biking. Like Lady Gravity said, the classes are smaller so there's more personal instruction and you can focus on specific things you need to learn rather than covering all the bases with everyone.
My two cents :)

In the past when I have helped out in women's camps and classes I enjoyed seeing the progression in a short period of time out of the women. The way they felt comfortable enough around each other to try new stunts and push their limits a little harder was amazing. It definately made me a believer that women sometimes just need another woman telling them they can do it to push themselves enough to do something new. I hope we can see some great camps next season to encourage even more ladies to take that next step in riding more aggressively.

I did Dirt Series this year, it was great and really increased my confidence. I think its great for beginners even to intermediates, but I really want something beyond that. I would really like a jump camp! I don't really know what's out there b/c I haven't looked into it too much, but it'd be neato to work on those skills that I completely lack ;)

Ya there was a Hotwheels camp here in Kamloops where they went deeper into some more advanced skills like jumping. The girls I spoke to had a lot of fun.
I always enjoy Shaums Camp for more advanced skills but they are generally co-ed. Alicia teaches with Shaums too she she helps bring some estrogen to the sausage festival. Too bad she'll be so busy with her baby by spring to get out much.

Yeah, I wanna do Shaums camp, but its a bit on the $$ side (though I'm sure its worth it). When it gets nearer that time maybe I'll take another look. I heard aboot the hotwheels camp, glad to hear it went well. Is it something that's going to happen again?

After reading the posts and going to endless biking it's good to see movement in Women's cycling.
The courses they offer seem to stop in fall obviously due to weather.
Abbotsford indoor has offered and detail will be worked out asap about a womens only camp for jan 21 sat. Jenelle will be working on that ,but give her a little time as the free time slot date took some time for me to work out.
Anyone who travels and needs a room Abbotsford Coast Hotel and Suites 604-853-1880 has a bmx rate of approx. $70 for 4. (normally $120?)
Ask for the bmx rate if you call ,the rooms are very nice and clean ,pool etc.
There is a link on site www.abbotsfordbmx.ca
Here's something to think about ?????
We rent this indoor arena 200x120foot dirt floor, build a indoor BMX track and put up some small dirt jumps. (kickers) Now while these kickers are actually smaller than the BMX track jumps they have a very steep face, hence the name kickers. They are a good place to practice, jumping as well as the track. After looking at some skatepark drop in's (gulp) this looks like a better place to hone your skills, and fairly warm indoor.
Riders like Fionn Griffiths enjoy hitting up the track and small dj's ,practicing her gate starts etc..
IF you girls can figure out a way to either organize or just make certain dates a good time to come out ,ask ? This needs not be expensive.
We already have thursdays coaching night (Adam Muys/Everett Hoath) pay the regular $5 practice fee and $5 to the coachs.
We could easily add a women component and do lessons at the same time with either Fionn or?? no need to reinvent the wheel.
If there is a demand I will ask to see if anyone would like to be a womens only coach thursdays for these or??
The ball has been lobbed ,it's in your court now.

I don't really do the full "instructional" type of deal, but any day out on the Shore usually turns into a bit of a session, and I've taught the occasional clinic on demand. Barb will come out to ride for the no boys allowed set, or for those of you that prefer some male company well.....I never refuse a lady.

I'm currently injured and off my bike for the next couple of weeks, but I'm sure I would normally suck ass at 4X too. We should definitely race each other!
Seriously though, I'd still be interested in at least coming out to watch and then deciding if I want to give it a shot. All in good fun, right?

My email at work (Jenelle's) is program@cycling.bc.ca
I'm gathering up all of the info for the camp and I will post it here probably early to mid week. So far, Fionn Griffith and Sarah Bloom will be the coaches, which gives the clinic both a SOLID background in 4x and BMX.
We are going to go through everything from the gate call, balancing on the gate, cornering, getting used to riding beside people, etc...
The cost will be very minimal, and we would like to do a lunch after the clinic. There will be racing that evening, so you can try your new skills if you feel that you are ready!
I will post the rest of the details this week...
What would be some other skills that you would be interested in reviewing?

Hi Jenelle,
Was wondering how many girls you have signed up or interested in the clinic for the 4th. I am more than likely going to make the trip over from the Island to have some fun & learn some techniques:rocker:

Can anyone give me good directions to the indoor?
Gary Harder
02-03-2006, 03:33 PM
The indoor is located at 32470 Haida drive, at Exhibition Park Abbotsford.
Main road down town in abby is S.Fraser Way,
heading E. on S.F.Way go past City Hall to next intersection go Left
this four lane rd Twethewy (you are driving N. now) go past ICBC building
past WJ Moat School through the intersection (EX. PARK ) is now on your right ,drive past the first entry into EX Park and go to next entrance turn right and enter (a one way spike barrier is in the next lane )
AGRIFAIR ARENA is right in front of you.
hope this helps.

Which women's camp do you guys think is the best? (has to be cheap) I'm a starving student
what level are you at in riding? rank beginner - i'd recommend the womens only http://www.womensonly.com/ - they have intermediate courses as well. not inexpensive, but i believe their courses are 8 weeks over a variety of terrain (so you can practice in between). if you know what you're doing and need an intense 2-day clinic, then do the sugoi dirt series - excellent value for your dollar, and you get lunch too! if you're looking for riding clubs for women, then likely contact denise (lets ride) or even john henry's pedals and pints. i can also recomend endless biking - i took a course with them last year, and have signed up for another one just recently. basically just check everything out, it's really hard to say what's the best.
if you want really cheap...then just post up on the ride planning forum that you want to go for a ride, and when - state your skill level, and see who shows up. i've found a lot of really great riding buddies that way.
just my 2 cents.
