View Full Version : road riding?
Is there anyone who'd be interested in doing a regular weekend road ride in Port Moody or PoCo/Pitt Meadows? I sometimes need a little motivation to get on the road bike, thought meeting someone might get me out there! Was thinking of moderate paced rides, more focused on miles than speed.

Oh man I wish I didn't live in Kamloops. I know how you feel. I love the road but good luck on me getting motivated to get out there. Most I do on my road bike is ride to work.

how about mid week in the am?
Sharon, I wish I could, but I have classes monday to friday, 9-4. I have some free time for road rides over the holidays though, if you'd like. Classes are done on the 16th, and I'm in town for all of it except for a few days right around the 25th.

Hello ladies,
I'm a guy, but do I qualify for road rides if I buy a t-mobile jersey?

Good, I'll post up towards the weekend...hopefully the snow clears up, not too sure about skinny tires on slushy roads!

Oh and hey, I need a new seat for my road bike...does anyone have a recommendation of which seat to get?
My road bike is from the early/mid-90's, and has a women's saddle from the same era. Oddly enough, it's pretty comfortable. For my mtb I've been happy with the wtb speed she.
There's a women roadie site that has two forums devoted solely to bike saddles...most hated and favourite. Lots of discussion about things like best shorts and other riding related seat problems. I've found the site to be a great resource. Here's the links to the saddle forums.

oh mtb gal maybe you should post a pic of you sadle for all to see. and then we can all guess as to what your lady parts look and feel like! LOL
Recommendation: Get a seat made for women roadies!!
Seriously though - most good roadie shops will let you try some b4 you buy it - call around to ask. Cramerotti or whatever its called on 8th and burrard is pretty friendly and helpful with no hype. Ie DH friendly

I have the Juliana saddle for my road bike. It is very comfortable because of my child bearing hips. Narrower saddles over many Kms kill my hips. So I guess it really depends on build to what feels most comfortable as Ramirifika pointed out graphically.

I'll ride with you, but no laughing at my seat! Besides, you won't be able to see it for my Giant shammies will be covering it up.
I'm coming in from NVan, so if anyone needs a ride out to destination Maple Ditch, pm me. how long, couple hrs or 3?
Really, no boyz? :cougar: only?
I'm in, I can ride out to Pitt Meadows easily to meet. Not sure if there's good coffee shop, but there is a Starbucks across from McDonalds in the mall. But I don't know what lsd is...oh well, I'll wear my winter tights and hope I'm prepared!

lsd = long slow distance
Sorry I didnt clarify that. It just means you'll be able to talk and ride, not a hard pace, but you will be pooped after. Alright see ya at the fourbucks (man its more like fivebucks now!) coffee shop across from the McD's (at the intersection of Harris and Lougheed right?)
THE INVITE IS OPEN TO ALL FEMMES!:rocker:

I hope not to eat so much frigin road salt next time tho'!!!
It was really good to find out that Danika's ankle was not actually broken after all...amazingly after that HUGE, near death, unavoidable crash that she took.
Just a little road rash.
Now her road bike looks like a real DH'ers bike...
I'm glad that you are ok, D...

Man where do I start?!?!?
Well lemme sum it up . .
I like to do little quick corners on the road, which i ususally do on my dh bike with super tacky 2.5's
Well, I was waiting for Jenelle (trust me that doesnt happen often - I just wasnt following the pace) so I started doing a couple corners to pass the time. And my stupid road tires dont grip so well on the damp, grimy pavement. In a very slow awkward motion my bike slipped from under me, depositing me on my left butt/hip and ankle bone. So there I was writhing on the ground and Jenelle and Allison roll up. Jenelle was already laughing if I remember right. Although she did manage to ask if I was alright.
I know, I'm an idiot.
I brushed it off to save some sort of pride.
Then 2 and half hours later with my feet/ankles still numb I was in the truck and I saw blood on my ankle and I freaked!! "Man my ankle bone is bloody and really big!!" I figured it must be seriously messed to swell that big and be bleeding. So I stupidly shared with J and A that "holy crap I think my ankle's broken!!"
give me a sec - I'm laughing really hard right now!
Ok it didnt take longer than a sec to realize that was ridiculous. Jenelle tried to stiffle a laugh and Allison asked if I needed to go the hospital. lol.
Which you'll be happy to know I declined, but said I should take an advil. Ok broken to advil in 30 sec. Like I said, I know I'm an idiot.
So I decided to compare ankle bones and HEY whaddya know. They're both pretty big and knobby!
I think we all laughed at that comment.
Anyway you'll all be relieved to know I am fine and so is my ankle. Although it is quite bruised and my left butt hip area is REALLY bruised.
Lesson learned. I suck on my road bike AND I'm dramatic.
Anyone in for a ride next weekend? It'll be a good show I PROMISE!
free viewing of the "almost" broken ankle. (extra to see the bruised butt).
Dont ask why my butt and ankle were the first things to hit the ground. You can answer that for yourself.

I think the lesson to learn is most of the time I get hurt is doing stupid little stuff. Just messing around to be silly. My friend Steve dislocated his shoulder on Rose hill. Not on the trail but on the road doing the exact same thing.

Glad your ankle is ok - I found that advil right after you left. What it's doing in the cupboard with my tea and hot chocolate I'm not quite sure...but at least I know where it is now!
