hello all
Im thinking of getting some new rubber, and i was thinking of kenda kinetics stick-e's in a 2.6. What I am wondering is if they will clear on my 03 supert. The wheel, for ref. is an alex supra-d. its a pretty narrow rim, if that helps. any ideas? I have a gazz jr 2.6 on there now, and not only does it suck shit in the wet, but it rubs a little on the fork. any and all advice is welcome.
ps: I can also get negevals in a 2.5 for the same price cheap, but my buddy recomended the kinetics; he runs them himself, and said they are really good for the shore, which is what I mostly ride.

I had an '03 Super T, and I have 2.5 Nevegal's. It worked just fine.

was there enough room to go one size up, or was it a little tight?

Are you at all interested in Intense 909 fro dh tires? cuz sports junkies got lots of those for 40.. they are preetty much all 2.7 but they fit fine on super t , jrt. Sports junkies have them in 50d and 60 d for 40 brand new huh..

Im suprised to how long this tire is lasting me, its at around 50%, its super tacky, perfect for rocky/rooty terrain and stunts. I wish I could get it in a 24"size for my rear wheel.

If my memory serves me correctly... I believe that there was room for a little more rubber. But remember that you should leave room for mud, warped rim, and other possibilities.

The 2.5 Nevegal is tight. Make sure you keep your wheel trued, or it will bight into the arch. Don't ride out a flat as well. Those eat the arch big time.

ok, so now i am questioning my tire choice. I know it is an age old debate, but negeval or kinetics? If negeval, should i be safe and just use a 2.5, or try a 2.7? remember, no returning. Both tires are the same price.

The Nevegal is a far better tire. 2.5"

Where are you getting them so cheap?

Nevegal 2.5 just to be safe. You do want enough room. yes how can you get taht tire for less than 40? only place i know with good deal on tires is overtime... i think nevegal for 50 and blue groove also

I call BS on that one. No way it's fine on a stock 03 SuperT. I'll bet there's less than 2mm of clearance.

As I've said before, when I had the '03 Super T on the Devinci, I ran a 2.5 Nevegal, on Atomlab rims, with no problems. No rub, no strangeness. It will work. Now if your rim somehow spreads the casing then MAYBE I can see it becoming a problem, but otherwise. Just Giv'er!

I was talking 2.7, not 2.5. I had a 2.7 mated to a D321 and it didn't fit. The 2.5 wasn't too bad.

the Kenetic is a terrible tire...

go for the Nevegal if your comparing those 2 Kenda tires... no question...

the 2.5 Nevegal is a true size tire so it will work in your fork...but just barely giving u the needed mud-clearance...

i can attest to this that the kenetic sucks this is my first year on it and ti wore fast and seemed to just such in general not bad for a back tire maybe but shit for the front at least get the nevegel for the front and get me one while your at it :dizzy:

i am running a 2.5 nevgal on a mag 30 its tight but works fine. I could not go a 2.6 i tryed it rubbed . You have to consider your rim width

Stay away from Kinetics like the plague... They pinch fl;at at anything less than Rock hard PSI and even then they go flat alot... Try to find SOme NEvegal's... 2.5's, they rule.

ok, thanks again for the input. I think im gonna go for a 2.5 negeval on the front and a 2.7 in the rear. this will be replacing 2.6 gazzalodi jrs. Are do negevals generally fit wide or narrow? I have a little bit more tire clearence in the rear, so Im pretty sure a 2.7 will fit. will a 2.5 front and a 2.7 rear work well? anybody have a similar setup?

speaking of 03forks anyone have problems with those stupid quick releases. i have knocked off both sides now . fortunately they were found.I lost one last weekend & it took out 2 spokes. anyone else had problems or have a solution.

push the center pice out of the y shaped peace, and dont have it as a quick release anymore.

On a related note I want to replace my 2.6 Gazz Jrs with 2.5 Nevegals as well (which seemingly suck in the wet). I'm a absolute gear n00b, what is the main benefit of the DH version (2-ply, wire bead) vs. the Freeride/XC version (single-ply, folding bead). I ride mostly Shore, not much Whistler.

im not sure if its possible for anything to be worse in wet than 2.6 gazz jrs. i just slip and slide everywhere. they are alsovery worn down. how much more was the dh version? its going on a ht, and im not smooth as glass, so they need to be able to take a good beating.

well according to this.. fr version is single ply.. and folding bead.. I think I remember fr version being cheaper. by 10 about.

Downhill version has 2 ply construction, wire bead and STICK-E Compound for better grip
Freeride / XC version is single ply, folding bead, STICK-E Compound or DTC (Dual Tread Compound)
Both versions have tall Knobs designed to penetrate and hold on to loose terrain
go for 4ply intense if u want something stif =D ha.. I like the feel of dh version better than fr.. fr feels too flimsy in away =S I never liked folding bead tires.

Zap straps. Seriously, they work. If you just go with the stock qr's, check them before/after every ride.

I'll second that. The kevlar bead tires have issues on a big bike. Stick with DH casing unless you're doing xc. And a 2.7 on the back is overkill. A 2.5 Nevegal is more than enough for dh/fr on the rear.

I have an 04 Super T, and a 2.7" Blue Groove barely fits. The Nevegal and Blue Groove are pretty big (wide) tires. If a 2.7" Nevegal fits into a 03 Super T, it HAS to be a very tight squeeze.

The 2.7" versions of the Tomac series, in wire bead, makes for an excellent tire if you want the extra grip and gush factor. They're comparable to the Michelin Comp 32. But don't expect to be pedaling anywhere fast. They are heavy, and the rolling resistance is high.

I'm using 2.3" Kevlar bead Nevegals on my AM bike, and although they don't roll very well on pavement (too tacky), they fit wide and the grip in adverse conditions is excellent.

A 2.5" wire bead Nevegal should work very well for you for gravity runs. It'll perform much better than the Gazzolodi.

thank you everyone for your responses. i think im gonna go with dual 2.5 stick-e negevals w/ wire bead. sound good?

I tried the kevlar bead version of the 2.5", and the sidewalls were too flimsy. The wire bead is definitely the way to go if you are going to ride hard.

YUK!

Run the same front and rear...and if you must run two different sizes, always run the larger tire up front.

Kenda tires measure out accurately with their stamped size. If its a 2.5, it is a 2.5 to a T. They have some of the most accurate sizing out there.

I would run 2.5 Nevegals (wire bead) front and rear. You won't be dissappointed. Best tires I have used, and I've used almost every high end tire on the market.
