Well I was building up my 2005 SC Chameleon Frame that I got from warranty. The headtube has been redesigned since my 2002 Chameleon and I have found out that the rebound and ETA adjusters on my Z.1 hit the beefed up area on the bottom of my down tube. I have noticed that a few others on the board have the same problem. So I was thinking, would it be possible to put a small spacer between the bottom of the headset and the crown on my fork? I could just move one of the spacers below my stem down. I can't concieve a reason why this would affect my bike negatively other than making the headtube a tiny bit slacker. Does my idea work? Will it create any problems? I do not want to have to file down anything.

I have created a little diagram to illustrate what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance...

im not sre if that would work because i thinkthe crown race has to be directly on the crown but 1 of the mechanicson the site would probly know.

If you have deep enough cups, you can press in cups with bottom bracket spacers in between the cup and the frame. You need DEEP cups.

no you cannot put spacer before your race..crown race has to sit right on the fork's crown. yes it creates a problem. lower part of your steer,(where it gets wider to jam the crownrace) isnt that tall so tehre isnt enough space for lil spacer and race to sit. even if it does... i wouldnt suggest it.. you are looking for trouble.

You're going to have a ton of play with that spacer set up.

Darn... hmmm.... any other ideas? I guess I'm going to have to file something or get a new frame like m_dub is doing...

Well thanks for the quick replies

I say just do something about your adjust knob.. if you dont use it much.. just take it off?

my manitou exvert did that on a holeshot frame ,I adjusted the fork to where I wanted & took the knobs off, eventualy I got another fork which didnt have this problem (2000 z-1 dropoff)

don't try to space it,eitehr take the knobs off, file them, get another fork

yes you can do this, as long as you have semi deep cups like a fsa pig, all you will need is one 1 mm spacer from a bb. I have used this before on numerous santa cruz

Yep, do this. I wouldn't mess around with spacers, you're just asking for an ovalized headtube.
