I'll be there for sure.

We need a major show of force. Come along and drag two friends along.

If you care about the trails on Fromme and the rest of the Shore DON'T MISS THIS MEETING.

The Alpine Recreational Strategic Study report is scheduled to be debated at the Council meeting on Monday, October 17, at 7:00 p.m at the Municipal Hall Council Chambers, 355 West Queens Road. This report will make recommendations for setting policy affecting the future of Mountain Biking on Mt Fromme and the rest of the District. The Council Agenda and report will be on the District Web Site on Thursday, October 13 for review ( dnv.org under Council Agenda).

I'm coming. It should also be noted that input from the public is being limited to 30 minutes @ 2 minutes per speaker. That means (mumbles under breath, counts on fingers) only 15 people will have the opportunity to speak before council. You have to sign up in advance if you wish to be heard, so be there before 6:30 if you want your shot.

I'll probably be there, lurking in the shadows. What's also important is getting to know the candidates for the upcoming election in the dnv. Who gets elected can/will have a significant affect on the future of mtb on Fromme and Seymour. Walton is definitley the guy for mayor.

If you want to speak plan on being there prioir to 6:30 or you won't likely get to. Also, keep it positive and respectful.

was there. all motions passed 5-1. No prizes for guessing who the no was. Funny thing was after arguing vehemently against it all night, when it came to the vote, poor old Ernie put up his hand as a yes... until the place broke out in laughter and a re-vote was called for the obvious.

Thing is, what now - what does it all mean? It was really just a vote to let the next Council worry about the whole issue. So we'll just keep building and riding I guess.

Yeah, I was surprised at the light MTB turnout. Hopefully the biking community is not going to lapse back into a coma and wait until another Ernie comes along to stir the pot.

Now that the council has voted to move ahead with the study, I was wondering if and how the district is going to involve stakeholders or interested parties in development and implementation of any final recommendations that come out of the study? At the meeting James promised to meet with the ULRA executive, but what about others like NSMBA.

It looks like the ULRA has established itself as a credible and important stakeholder in the eyes of the District, so I urge any mountain biker who lives in the ULRA catchment area to sign up (with partner and it only costs $5) and ensure the views of mountain bikers are properly and fairly represented.

Also a certain trail builder, who was at the meeting, who lives in the area and who has not signed up needs to do so … pronto. nudge nudge.....

I threw in my $0.02 worth on the blog :-).

The meeting was pretty good and I'm glad I went. I had a good laugh when Ernie got confused and ended up voting for accepting the reports recommendations. Pity they let him fix his mistake. The blurb on the nsmb front page puts it well. As much as I hate to admit it, the local biking community wouldn't be what it is now without Ernie. That doesn't mean I'll miss him though.

I wish I'd thought to wear my biking jacket to the meeting. Next time...

Silk, when you were up at the podium speaking, I was watching Monica. When you mentioned the thousands of man-hours spent maintaining trails at no charge to the district, she was shaking her head and looked like she had something sour in her mouth. Her disgust was even more apparent when you mentioned the Provincial funding to the NSMBA for Baden Powell maintenance. It kind of made me want to talk to her afterward, ask why she's so personally hostile to riders.

I also wanted to ask her to say "suffering succotash".

the nsmb front page puts it well.

Cam's right. The devil will be in the detail.

When they get down to the nitty gritty of talking trail closures and trail standards, etc. we've got got to be more proactive than ever and have a large and vocal presence in those discussions. Ultimately I think the goal should be a net 'no loss' of trails and have freedoms within the guidelines to be creative.

Good on ya' Ken for stepping up to the plate.

Boo on the woman claiming to 'represent' the Upper Lynn Residents Association (ULRA) who said Upper Lynn residents haven't been consulted in this process. What a load of bollocks. Council and staff has bent over backwards to accomodate everyone and make it a very open and transparent process.

Plus, I'm a member of that ULRA and they have NEVER CALLED A MEETING. They are not representative at all. She was speaking out of order - expressing personal opinions and claiming they were the ULRA's. She hoodwinked council and the problem with council meetings, you're not allowed to call someone on their lies, so all I could do was sit there and bite my tongue.

but what about others like NSMBA.

Thanks to everyone who came out!

The NSMBA will continue to maintain the trails, work with the district to ensure the trails will continue to be maintained by individuals. As well we will be proposing a signage project like the one done on Mt. Seymour with the new kiosks. We would also like to sign trail intersections and trail heads consistently on Fromme and Seymour.

We will continue to move forward.

yeah i can't believe the balls of the ULRA to say they were left out ... funny at EVERY SINGLE FRIGGIN meeting there was always one or two residents who wanted nothing less than mtb fully banned ... and a whole bunch who wanted the RPO down to the mall.

just cause you aren't getting your way doesn't mean you weren't consulted.

as they said, their main primary goal is a "quiet and safe" neighbourhood, cause god knows all those mtbers up on McNair were breakign into homes and vehicles. NIMBYism at its finest ... it'd be like Deep Cove residents trying to ban any tourists from coming in ...

What got me was they kept mentioning that the ULRA wasn't in existence when the Alpine Study was being done, and that was somehow unfair to the residents. As if the formation of a group after the fact merits the report being deferred, or somehow invalidates the findings.

Dude, its not like I was ever consulted about Deep Cove becoming a "destination". And its time to kick those rowers and kyakers off the water. There's a pool at Ron Andrews Community Centre they can row and paddle in without disrupting my neighbourhood. D.

I think we may need to form the ULRAOA (Upper Lynn Residents Association Oversight Association) to keep tabs on the URLA. That way if the URLA manages to push on the DNV, we can claim that it decisions to be deferred because the ULRAOA wasn't formed until midway through the process and therefore we weren't properly consulted.
