I am going up to PG next week for a few days and am going to bring my XC-ish bike with me. I am looking for some good XC type trails to ride. I used to live up there but it has been many years, so I need some direction.

Not too tough to find some good xc trails around here. From UNBC you can hit quite a few trails ranging from path-like to singletrack. Phiderny has some decent trails mixed in with some shore inspired ones. If you're not familiar with either of those areas, I would check out Ottway. The trails are mixed in with the xc ski trails. They're pretty easy to find and it's tough to get lost because everything pretty much leads back to the lodge.

Your best bet is to drop in to one of the shops and ask for some directions. Either that or PM me and I can point you in the right direction.

go up the hill to the uni, go past the main entrance ,turn right at the next street then left and you should be at the P-lot.From there you can ride the blue spruce out to hy 16 or ride around the uni/forest for the world .If you want a long ride from there take the greenaway trail out to otway the xc ski area there are signs with maps all over the area .

Otway has some good xc, out otway road 5m from foothills blvd ,in the P-lot look at the sign on the left (furthest from the daylodge) it will have a map of all the singletrack cycling trails.

pidherny ,go across the foothills bridge, take the left at norht nechako rd ,turn right at pidherny rd &park at the gate .no maps but there are trails allover some great single track built mostly by a local doctor

the love trail or gunn trail:from down town go across either the hy 16 bridge east or the bridge going south and there is a singletrack between the 2 bridges on the ridge overlooking town . I often take this one on the way to work

XXX er, thanks for the offer. I am going up to see my folks for the weekend and am not sure when I am going to go riding. I may not have access to a computer, can you pm with your phone number.

How is Otway for dogs, do they allow them on there? I know it a pay per use in the winter for skiing, is it the same for biking?

i enjoy Otway, although UNBC/Forest For The World trails can be a nice day of riding too.

If you rode 57 Chevy at Otway back in the Trailbomber days you were a god for that week, hahaha. Who remembers that trail:P? (@ Otway)

By the way, I don't have a dog, just seen lots of the little buggers up there. I can't imagine it would be a heck of a lot of fun up there right now anyways. It's friggin miserable out there today.

a few years ago we (we cuz I am part of the ski club) let the dog mushers run a race out at otway and afterwards they picked up EVERY piece of scat

If you havent tried it skate skiing is a fun thing to do at night in the winter , actualy a few riders are into skate skiing myself, Bill & Meryl even Soupy
