building in sand on a steep sloop. it's a 90 degree corner I was going to burm, but have desided to build a wall ride instead.

most of the framing will be out of raw stuff I can drag out of the bush. some of it is going to be built out the remains of an old (30's-50's?) shed that's near by. it'll be about 20 feet long and maybe 6 - 8 feet tall. 6 is more likely as the materials in the area are limmited. and your going to ba able to charge in to it with a lot of speed. thinking of making it curved as well.

tips and hint of supporting it, and framing it up. what sort of angle should it be, as in 90 dergee or 45 or??? the slope its being build on is 35 drgees or so.

anything else I'm not thinking of?

take a look in the "synchros log" thread. there are some decent pics of the wallride he is building.

wow, thats intence. I'm going to have to source more material. I'm lacking any decent sized ceadar, and rock. the area I'm working in was logged, I'm guessing in the 40's, or earlier, so there is not much around for dead fall.

looks like I got a couple weeks of human mule work ahead of me before I start to build anything.

nice, that about what I'm looking to build, maybe a little taller. got any photos of the frame and support work? I want to build it once and make sure it's bomb proof.

Now that's a wall ride. No offence to the other guys, but that Esher thing is a berm.

The die hards will still say since it's on an angle it's not a wallride.

True dat.

Dirty Dave Diggler has built a ton of both walls and berms up in Westbank, and I know he lurks around here. He's probably got some good advice, chief amongst which would be:

"Overbuild it, and it will last."

Nah, I say wall ride. No die hard here. I more often just crash hard. Like I did on Dave's wall ride up on Powers that you speak of Smoke. The berms were great, the wall ride kicked my ass.

yeah its is a berm, i guess you can either look at a wallride as being a near vertical section, or perhaps even disconnected with the trail so that you have to gap air onto the wallride, and gap off

with our current berm / wallride (whatever its really called) you just ride up the dirt straight on, and straight off.

we're adding about 4 foot of vertical at the top, starting from the middle, and extending 10 foot further along the trail from where it currently ends, the idea is more expert riders will be able to enter the wallride half way across at a steeper angle and go up onto the vert wall

this is what's feeding into the wallride, the vert section will take advantage of the extra speed from the new 1.2M booter.

we're also building a "true" wallride at the top of the park coming off a disconnected tabletop stunt

shows more detail of framework:

4"x2" saw timber, built into box towers, sunk 2-3' into ground and buried, then cross braced + anchor beams sunk 2-3' into ground at 45 degree angle behind wallride

big dirt plug at base, framework pegged into ground with 1"x1" timber strips, then "Hoggins" (special kind of dirt imported to site) cap added over dirt plug to provide smooth tranny up off trail surface.

another example of banked corner work:

Davet's pics really show how "easy" it is to do. Build the frame, put wood on it:D
To curve it tho using straight wood, you need multiple verticle stringers. Think of an octagon, with an upright stringer at each point.

Esher Shore (www.eshershore.com - kinda out of date website!) is a freeride bike park just outside of London, England

its all built by volunteers and run as not-for-profit with trail building donations from Specialized, Freeborn, Banshee, DMR bikes, Giant, Ski Morzine, Ellsworth, Devinci, etc.

entry is just GBP £5 all day riding session (open 7 days a week) and GBP £10 for year's membership

we've got 3 acres of Shore style trails and stunts, and a large DJ park next to the shore trails

come play if in London anytime!
