I'm riding out to see family tomorrow and to consume a brid. i'm taking the XC bike, so dirt is much perfered but i'll probably end up being lazy and taking the road. I also know the massy tunnel wont let you through, how about the Alex Fraser? Is there any paths that lead down there? Any tips to avoid as much as Surrey as possible? Should i bring my 9mm?

Thank you, that is all.

Damn that's gonna be a long ride. Well you either have to go thru the tunnel (if they still have the bike shuttle there) or as you say, the Alex Fraser.

I don't even know if you're allowed to ride down the side of highways anymore - anyone?

Maybe pedal the whole way out along Marine Drive to New West, take the Queensborough to Alex Fraser then along 91 to 99.

I'm heading to WR for dinner too, but I'll be coming from Coquitlam unfortunately, so can't offer you a lift.

I havent lived in van for 10 years but how about taking the path running under the skytrain out to new west, from there either thru surrey (don't forget the Glock) or take the queensbourough to alexfraser. There used to be a trail that ran along the railroad tracks from river rd to the delta watershed that you might get on from the first freeway exit.Ride up thru the watershed and sunshine woods area (where ma & pa live) ,go across hy 10 on 120th to the road that goes along the ridge, half way down that road a cool steep road thru the forest with some swithcbacks takes you down to the flats.Turn leftish ,you will be more or less paralelling the freeway in a agricultural area ,turn right when you get to the overpass that will take you to south surrey/whiterock .Ride the road around that whole penninsula (marine dr?) You can probably check this all out more or less with mapquest

actualy most of that area IS surrey ,white rock is a very small part of that penninsula

everytime I go down there it doesnt take long to realize why I moved away

If you're going under the skytrain...I wouldn't be too worried about riding through Surrey.

Marine Drive to the Arthur Lang Bridge, then take the Swing Bridge, cut you way north (only a short distance) to the River Rock Casino, follow north river road all the way to Queensborough (There is a gate that will let you past the sawmill at the north end or No. 6 road, This is a great ride). Once you are in Queensborough just make your way to the Alex Fraser. (after that I don't know what to tell you).

Or just catch a bus with a bike rack on Oak and take it all the way to White Rock.

It's not worth it to try riding from the south end of the tunnel to white rock...

Take a look at the 351/354 bus (354 is the rush-hour southbound M-F) on the translink website. they should have schedules and maps for it. It starts at Burrard station, goes east on Pender to Dunsmuir, south on Howe, all the way out of the city on Granville to 72nd, goes west through a neighborhood to the Oak St. bridge and then gets on the freeway. On the north side of the tunnel it stops at the west side of the overpass, then continues all the way to central white rock. (Semiahmoo mall). Once it gets to white rock it goes west to Ocean Park and Crescent Beach if you're headed that way.

It's always one of the nice highway coaches with high-back padded seats and headrests. If you have a nice bike be sure to sit up front and keep an eye on it while going through S. Surrey (or lock the front wheel to the downtube so nobody can grab it off the rack and ride away).

If you just want to get through the tunnel and ride through there, lots of buses go south through the tunnel bus stop, including the 601 Delta and Tsawassen buses. They'll drop you off on the other side of the tunnel.
