I'm considering buying a new bike in a few months and have narrowed it down to the iron horse sunday and demo 8. I'm curious which is thought of as a better "all around" bike. One day I will be dirt jumping the other doing drops and dh. Also I'm not totally ruling out the santa cruz vp-free.
Unless your DH racing the 8 is the all-round fun for all the family machine.

I ride an Ironhorse SGS Pro Dh and as much as I like the IH's if I had a chance ot buy the demo, I would. The IH stuff is really sweet, and with the DW rear setup its hard to beat, but for an all around bike, I would still go Demo.

I am currently riding a big hit dh with a shiver, its a 49lb bike so maybe I didn't give a good indication of what I really plan on doing with the bike. I plan on entering races sometimes and riding dh at a nearby resort, along with doing drops but nothing over 15 feet, I prefer dirt jumps.
You need to keep your bike and get a HT.

I'm keeping the bike most likely switching out frames because I'm happy with the parts on my big hit nothing is stock anymore. I have a .243 hardtail with a dj2 setup for dirt jumping and some trail riding (still have 8 gears).

demos are so highly over rated it disgusts me. i wanted one so badly untill i got a chance to ride it and then i knew it was not the bike for me, chainstays are way to short and give a very unstable ride a high speeds. when you hit berms going really fast it feels like all your speed gets sucked right into it cause the wheel path is straight up and down.
the sunday i know nothing about never rode one never seen one in person.
may i suggest checking out the cannondale gemini lighter and a way better all arounder than the demo.

I was talking to someone at the World Masters who was riding a Sunday. He said it handled small hits ok, but the big hits it didn't. He didn't seem that pleased with it.

LOL ! How do other axle paths ride in berms ?

Take a IH 7point7 out for a ride.
It sounds like you want a versatile bike to handle everything from drops to djumping. The 7.7 and can all that and it pedals exceptionaly well with a duel chainring system in the e.13 that is perfectly integrated.
The Sunday is a full on dh rig.

He's asking about the Sunday - not an SGS, which is an entirely different bike than the Sunday (DW-Link).

No, not the 7point7. Its between the sunday and demo 8, possibly a vp-free. I am not looking for a real "versatile" bike, I have a hardtail. This bike primarily is being used for big things in terms of gaps/drops, and I am not super easy on my bikes. I ride an almost 50lb big hit and I could care less about the weight. I have a bike for handling big things and I plan to keep it that way, but be able to carry more speed on dh so a bit more dh oriented than a big hit.

Thanks champ...I totally didn't realize they were two different bikes.
I mentioned it because if you care to look, its actually spec'd comparably. Other than the brakes, its actually pretty similar build. I have ridden the Sunday and IMO other than the DW rear end (which feels amazing), it feels pretty similar to my SGS pro DH.
Just a word to the wise, this bike is long. I noticed a big difference in turning radius from by old Norco. But when your down and out pinning it, it feels much more stable.

I don't know but I just cannot get past buying a bike at SportChek (if thats still the Ironhorse dealer??). I would rather buy ANY bike than a set of wheels from a retail store.
Its like buying a bike at Walmart or K-Mart. Rather go through a LBS, and support local people.
Not sure if this is the only place you can get them though???
Having said that, test ride them both and then decide. Look at the geometry and the engineering that went into both (quality of design, welds, etc.) and then decide. Sit on both and listen for "creaks". That usually tells you something about the bike (IMO).

Idk, mine rails... and the wheelpath is not vertical, despite what specialized might say.

Dude re-read your original post. I'm partial to the Iron Horse products as I dig the quality of the pedaling.

If your not worried about weight so much, get the Demo9 ... only weights 1.5 lbs more
go-ride had the 7 point frames for super cheap not long ago.
I believe it was 879 including seatpost and headset
