Hey,
There is a banshee scratch at my lbs and its 1000$ with rigid fork(would upgrade to some sort of dirt jumper) My only concern is the wieght of it. Im 5' 3 and likee 115lbs. I will grow more so.....would it be ok? There is also the block 8 journeyman frame for 450$ that i could maybe build up. And the scrathc has 24" wheels on it so would like a dj 3 be to big for it or will it fit?

dj3 would work fine with it suposing that the wheels have disk spots on them

ya i built one up with some hfx 9's and I think it was a nixon. The discs bolted right on to the hubs but I had to space the discs out from the hub to stop the rubbing.the head tube is fairly short so even a cut steerer tube on a used fork has a better chance of fitting. Its real easy to put discs on and a front suspension.
are you asking if it will take what you can dish out? the scratch is built like a tank (also its HEAVY), I think you would hurt yourself in the process of wrecking this bike

don't get it, you are way too light, no offense.
that frame is probably the heaviest hardtail frame i have ever held, even i wouldn't ride it and im 155lb.
look into a bmx or XS aluminum mountainbike with light components
and dj3 are bad choice for a fork weight wise.

not true. I am i fairly light guy and i find the bikes weight minimal when im riding it. Yes the bike is heavy, but the geometry of the bike compensates for the weight.

Well I had a pretty heavy bike befor...i think it was 37 lbs or 39lbs and i could bunnyhop like a foot and a half almost. Im really considering the scratch because i can get one for 1000 at my lbs and put a nice fork on forlike 300.
does anyone know the actual weight of the scratch?

they say 35-35 lbs which probably means 35-40lbs ,ask if you could take a little test ride

30-35 lbs actually...according to the hardcopy catalogue. Its the wheelsets on the bike that make the bike weigh so much. Funn 24x48 heavy but industructible. If you are only 115 lbs, you wouldnt need wheels that strong. Maybe ask your lbs if they can swap the wheels to sumthin lighter?

yeah I've been having problems with my back since I have a fairly heavy bike. Anyone have any tips on how to hop higher without hurting my back?

you'll get used to it. After riding a heavy bike, your muscles will adapt to it and youll get stronger. That includes the arms, the legs, and even the back.

Haha, 30lbs on a Scratch with wheels like that? No chance. Even 35 is a stretch.
My Aluminum 4hun, with Singletrack wheels and light tires weighs 34lbs. It's got cromo cranks and an 03 (Alu stantion though) Dirtjumper 1. The Scratch frame will be heavier, and those wheels will be like, 5000lbs each. I do love the frame though, it looks dope.

You could do a 30 lb Scratch. Maybe even sub-30. That'd be a stretch though. My Scratch is somewhere in the 34-35 range with 3 pc steel cranks and an oversize chain. I run a Mag30 and a Doubletrack for wheels and a rigid that's about as heavy as a Pike. With some wheel changes I could drop some weight, but with some real expenditures I could probably have the weight down even more.

actualy I checked the hard copy today and it sez 30-45b lbs which sound more like the ball park to me.I would bet they are close to 40lbs out of the box with a rigid front fork ,add deraillers, disc brakes , a suspension fork and yer over 40lbs

uh, he said he's still growing... and guy who started the thread, stay the hell away from Alu. HT's, they're completely pointless and ride like shite... the scratch will last you forever, but I have no real experience or knowledge of the Journeyman... looks nice tho.
As you'll be told a million times here on the boards, PIP and the boy's at Banshee stand behind their products like none other (or very few)...

there was a thing on the banshee website for a while, dont know if it still is or not, and they had the scratch for 1000. i'd check the parts on that bike before you but the other one

Its' the same bike, they do a fully spec'd one called the Grommy, with the rigid fork and Funn parts, it's pretty sweet, and a $1000 is a good deal for that complete set up.
