Im want to convert my hardtail into a urban/dj machine over the winter, I want some advice for some good parts to replace the old ones and maybe take some weight off of it. I used to freeride on it but I recently bought a VPS so I really havnt ridden my Hardtail much. The current set up is:

Frame: 2004 Kona Stuff
Fork: 2004 Drop Off Comp
Wheels: 26" doubletrack on a formula, front 26" Ditchwitch on a shimano hub.
Brakes: Hayes HFX-Nine
Cranks/bb: Truvative Hussefelt, Kona Knine bash ring
Pedals: Axiom Roadgap
Bars/Stem: Kona DH
Seat:Velo Camo
Grips:Raceface good'n'evil
Deraillers/Shifters: Shimano Alivio
Tires: Nokian Gazza 2.7
The set up im aiming for without spending way too much:

Frame: 2004 Kona Stuff
Fork: Rockshox Pike/Revelation/Psylo
Wheels: 24" rear double track, 26" front double track
Brakes:Hayes HFX-Nine
Cranks/bb: truvative Hussefelt, Envy inner ring.
Pedals: Axiom Roadgap
Bars/Stem: Truvative Oversize or Titec Oversize
Seat: Velo Camo
Grips: Raceface good'n'evil
Derailler: Shimano LX
Tires: Arrow launch, Maxxis Holy roller

I can only spend a little more then I get for the parts I sell which I figure should be around Hmm....$600 So I could probably spend $800 on new parts after I sell off all of my spare shit and parts that im stripping off of it. Hopefully I will be done by spring or summer and Il have one sweet ass hardtail.

why would u want to run 26,24 when u already have dual 26?

don't expect to be able to sell all your stuff.

As for your conversion: You don't really need a nice fork for urban/dj
my recommendation would be new smaller tires and to go ss

I need a new fork though, mines bagged. I dont want to go SS because Id be using it partly as a cummuter too. I want a 24/26 setup because I tryed it out on my bike and it makes it alot funner to ride.

have u ridden both 26/26 and 26/24? I used to ride 26/26 on my bike but tried a 24 rear and I like it much better. Its totally personal so dont even start that stuff becuase its an arguement that cant be won.

and maybe take some weight off of it.

then dont run double tracks....rhynolites XL or Singletracks will be more than enough and lighten your ride by mucho amounts. Also try regular bicycle tubes than DH tubes. I would spend about $50 on a Shimano road derailler like an ultegra (since u want to commute). It is all steel, stiff spring, and short cage.
