it all depends on the bike how much travel you will have

its not as easy as just puting a new shock on your bike and riding. You have to make sure the eye to eye is correct and make sure the stroke is correct and some frames dont handle well with some shocks. Take your time in finding a shock, get all the specs you need first then go around looking for a shock that caters to the specs you have set. Then ask around about wheather it will work well for the frame.
