View Full Version : Will Shimano Saints work on Regular 6 bolt rotors??

I am interested in buying a set of Shimano saint brakes and levers, but I do not have (or plan to buy) shimano hubs.

Will other types of regular 6 bolt 8" rotors work instead of the "centerlock" rotors, and which ones???

Also, I hear (from the Shimano website) that you can buy aftermarket adaptors in order to fit the Shimano Center lock rotors on standard 6 bolt hubs? Anybody know where I can find them???

Thanks!

i didn't know that you could use center-lock rotors on 6-bolt hubs, but you can use 6-bolt rotors on centerlock hubs with an adaptor.

just order in some standard 6-bolt shimano rotors from your LBS.

Yeah, If you buy the Saint 8" calipers, they SHOULD come with a 8" 6-bolt and 8" Center-Lock rotor.

I dunno about that, mine did not come with both. Hayes rotors work fine also, although they tell you not to. I have ridden with Hayes rotors all year, no probs.

They do. The rear kit comes with both a ctr lock and a regular 6 bolt rotor, and the front comes with only ctr lock.

The XT 6 bolt disc is identical, so you can just buy one more XT rotor and you are set to go.

Or use Hayes rotors...which work perfectly fine with Shimano brakes. Lots of riders to this.

not so my friend. My Magura rotors are too large in diameter to fit Saints with 8in adapter. I think they are 210mm vs 203 (they catch on the caliper), and they are also wider, I couldn't get them to fit between the pads..

yes, the hayes rotors can run shimano brake calipers and vice versa....

If you end up with the brakes and rotors, the spline is just bolted on. Ive seen quite a few home job adapters which consist of nothing more than a circular billet with the hole patern for the rotor drilled in it, and then the standard 6 bolt mount holes (and a spot for your axel to slot through).

They are riveted on.

That would work, but it seems like an awful lot of work when the proper Shimano 6 bolt rotors can be had for about $50 ea.

Turned the 50 or so unused center lock rotors we had lying around into something usefull for about 2 bucks a pop.

is that all there is to it? just remove the rivets? that's super easy!

the last time I checked, Shimano had 2 skus - one for the brake with the centerlock rotor and one for the brake with the 6-bolt rotor (and then front and rear)

No. That isn't how it works.

Just look at the two rotors, the spacing is completely different.
