Howd bender get discovered?

I remember back a few years ago there was a pic on some site of him dropping some bigass drop to a nearly flat landing on an FSR. I think that's about the first that most people saw of him...

i think where he blew up was in park city, right at the same time some norba dh races were going on.... the norba people were all pissed because he didnt get their permission or whatever to drop with big retaining wall...
he crashed, but wasnt hurt too bad...
thor "jib" wixom filmed it, i guess norba tried to ban him for his involvement...

About 3 years ago, I was at Mammoth for a NORBA. I saw Thor with a camera showing people this kid who could drop 40 footers. It was Josh. At the time no body kew who he was and if I recall, nobody really cared!

No he was a mad snow mobiler, he was hucking off his roof on it in the mountains. He then did sum small stuff on bikes and he was very very quickly recognised by Karpiel when he had only just started and he has developed with them.

I respect bender, and it pisses me off how so many peeps on this board constantly diss him. yea, he may not be as smooth or have the all around ability of dudes like Wade, but he goes fucking huge, and i give him props for that. its not like you see bender going around putting down other riders like other riders put him down. he seems like a pretty down to earth guy, and i dont think shit should be spoken bout him. you shouldnt judge people only by what you see in the NWD movies. who knows, he could be a hella good tech and street rider, but is never given the oppertunity to show it cuz hucking is his biggie. oh well, just my 0.02 cents.

he might not be the top guy now but he still deserves WAY more respect from freeriders then he ever gets...

Thanks to ppl who actually answerd the question. Dont start crap about this being a crap ass bender thread, ive been around awhile and ive never heard this before, and i was curious. Seriously, Josh has incredible talent not just on a MTB but in other sports. He OWNs a niche dicipline in MTB and it seems that others want to drag him down because he's not perceived as a "complete" rider.
Bender rules big drop land and I respect and am in awe at his talent.

I've seen him skiing. Not those mono-board bits. He is INSANE, but cliff-hucking is more respected in skiing. I think I saw a pic of him dropping a 40 footer switch. He probably tried to land like that too :rolleyes:

Bender is Bender and our sport wouldn't be as entertaining. People I know who don't ride want to watch MTB vids because they hear that he does something huge. Like the Jaw Drop

nice, i wanna meet him to see what he really thinks and acts luike because when i saw double down, he was like "when i hear about these kids trying crazy stuff and killin themselves, i just think natural selection" as in, he thinks that hes the best in the sport and hes the only one who can do it. but w/e, thats only a vid so he could be completely different.

fast on the downhills, stylish on stunts, haven't seen many people backflip a Banshee Scream on the shore, not just a hucker...

got this email from him recently, we're trying to get him over to the UK for the Bike Show and a hucking roadtrip:

I found out the dates and it is looking like I am coming sometime around the 26th or the 27th of april for Garda, and then it looks like a road trip for a short period of time and then I think I will be flying out on the 21st after the event in winterburg goes down. So it is looking like we should start planning a schedule because if I am there that long we can get some shit done as well as some good pictures. So let's get it started!
