I'm disappointed...I'm leaving town for two weeks holidays the day before it starts!

I'm upset that I'm going to miss out on free Redbull that I assume they'll be giving away. And the good biking, of course.

Did anyone read the article on BMXonline bout it? Here's what Miron had to say: "I hate that invite-only crap; I don't ever want to do an invite-only contest (although I may end up doing one when the sport gets bigger), but I'd like to have it open so that if there's some kid who's amazing and can hang and wants to ride, he can ride." Sure would make our comps more interesting.

i agree with that but couldnt the make it like crankworx and have a qualifying and then the invites ?

If you're having qualifying, why don't the invited riders have to qualify as well? If they're so good, then they should qualify easily, and would make for a better show for people who get stuck watching all those lowly people who didn't get invites.

I don't think that the top pros are going to be really excited about having to fly around the world to qualify for a contest.

If they're too fancyschmancy to ride an extra day to qualify, screw them.

i dont think its the qualifying thats the problem, its the fact that they have to fly from europe to get a chance to enter

If they aren't good enough to qualify, they shouldn't. I don't care how far they come from.

If people are willing to come from around the world for Metro Jam and have to qualify for that, then why can't mountainbikers?

Have you looked at these jumps? They're HUGE! If you can't ride, you're not going to hit them.

If you read the interview, Jay said they're not going to let just anybody ride. If you can't make thru the sets, you don't ride. He doesn't want people casing and F-ing up the landings. If you style them, you can compete. Sounds good to me. I think this contest is going to bring mad NW trails riders out of the woodwork. Style riders who would never hit up the typical 3 trick jumps in a row DJ contests.
http://www.albes.com/ProductImages/videophotos/buildingundergrounddvd.JPG
Check out the vid Building the Underground for pretty much the best trail style ever. Southwoods RIP. I couldn't hit a single line there, but I liked to watch. I wish I could take my skirt off and hit trails like that, so bad. SO BAD.

I can't wait to watch this contest.

Has anybody seen anyone riding the jumps yet, other than the builders? The site says Nyquist, Nasty, Bohan are going to be there. I'm psyched on Bohan. I wonder if Aitken and Doyle will be there?

saw the jumps yesterday. they are the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. i don't blame them for not wanting people to case them. if i spent that much time sculpting the perfect jumps, i would strangle the first person to case them. they are sooooo pretty. a little garden of jump eden.

Practice today was sick. Friday and Saturday are going to be crazy. Great eye candy while waiting in the lift line, but definately worth stopping to watch. Yes all the pros have to qualify. Like someone else said, they're good enough that they will qualify no probs, and it makes for a great show.

I watched some guys session the jumps today. I saw a backflip over the bottom jump, an over rotated 360 on the last jump and some mad flow throughout the rhythm. The jumps are unreal and the show will be incredible. The jumps have smooth flow, progressive hits with some HUGE poppers with lots of options.

I finally did manage to scrape my jaw off the ground to take one snap...

If they are top pros they should be able to qualify easily. At crankworx like 8 of the "top pros" wouldnt have qualified. Invite only contests are a joke, because its like they ressurect te retirement home to compete. Get the kids who kill it in there.

What about an invite comp with 8 to 10 positions available for qualifier. That would kind of solve both sets of problems. Leave the old timers (sheesh) in there for nostalgia and bring in some fresh blood that might not be known.

Man.

That was the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Crankworx take note:

1) Started on time.
2) Flowed really quickly - not standing around waiting like an idiot
3) A format that made sense and pushed people all 3 runs

That triple tailwhip was rinsane (yes. Ridiculous and Insane). Nyquist's 720 to backflip - my god.

Anyway, the way those guys ride their bikes makes me not want to.

I want to see the landed triple-whip. Im sure theres gonna be some awesome vids from this soon enough. Looks like it went really well!
EDIT: Did berrecloth compete? Hes on the list of riders that were spose to... I dont know how the guy can compete at such a high level in both types of riding, such an all around rider.

trouble
08-27-2005, 10:30 PM
berrecloth didn't compete, the announcer guy was talking to him a bit at the beginning of the comp, I didn't hear too well, but he may have said something about having an injury of some sort, but don't quote me on that.

the comp was so sweet, nyqyuists double barspin backflip and his 720, the triple tailwhip, the flipwhip, and numerous front flips were some highlights

Dang I only saw the second round and the jumping wasn't that impressive. I definately missed out. I only saw two 'good' tricks landed and one sic trick attempted (backflip 360 I think, or a barrell roll not sure)

Flipwhip and a front flip. Front flip was sic and so was the flipwhip (one of my favorites to watch). I just wish I had seen some of the other best tricks.

from what i saw on that fbmx vid clip that was the first stylish front flip ive ever seen. gives me new respect for the trick. does anyone know who pulled off that backflip-3whip? that is the most beautiful combo ive ever seen. i cant wait for metro jam so i can see it live.
