Allright so I'm a big marz fan ,almost every fork I've owned (except a judy :) )
Riding a Shiver at the minute ,looking at for next year a 888 RC2X OR A Travis .
I more or less know what I'd be getting with the 888 , what I'd like to know is whats the difference in
Ride feel , maintainence etc. in general between the two brands.
I know its a very vague question but you know what I mean

from my experience, manitou forks are a lot less active than zokes.
I think this is a good thing...some may disagree.
Both are stupid easy to work on.
go with a Travis...
life is good on team Manitou...
8-)
i def. prefer the damping system of Manitou forks over Zokies... both do the job they are designed to do , i just feel Manitou's do it better...

conformity over performance?
I agree with derwood, I found Marzocchi to be more "springy" and have a huge range of adjustment, slow to fast, while Manitou forks (I've tried Shermans and Dorados) have more of sinking feel and more shorter range of adjustment "feel". I guess it comes to personal preferences, both fork brands back their products well and are both easy to maintain and replace, oh and once set properly they both absorb all the travel you pay for.

there is definitely less adjujstement with a manitou, it can be hard to even notice the difference unless you crank it from extreme to the other

888's are the craziest fork ever made...plow over everything, super stiff, strong and lots of adjustments. way better than any slider.

i rode marz, then switched to manitou, they werent bad forks but the slider doesnt even compare to the 888

Ive ridden the travis and it is good, very good, but i would bet the 888 would be more reliable. The 888 is a sweet set it and forget it fork, i think the travis may require more maintence, but it is very light stiff and feels awesome.

You know, people are going to say all this stuff to compare the two companies, but in the end, it's all going to come down to your very own personal preference.

actually with intrinsic they are going to full open bath cartridges so you might be in for a surprise maintenance wise. Obviously the jury is still out on the travis.
ifo, have you ridden one? or is it just the gearwhore in you that's making this purchase?

Is it possible that the 06 888 may be avalible to sponsered riders all ready?Looking like I could be getting hook up with a real sweet deal 8)

Previously the 888 was not a cheap fork in the sense that one had to spend money on flat crown, drop stem and low rise bar for the front end to be at a reasonable height (this is supposedly changed for 2006). Once that was all added up it made the 888 more expensive than a 2005 Boxxer WC, and the WC is a good pound and a half lighter. I personally don't like the feel of the 888 in that it dives alot under braking and seems to pack up in braking bumps.
The Travis is an unknown. As a very happy Dorado owner I'm certainly interested in getting on the Travis program, but I'm not a big fan of riding product in its first year. From what I've seen the Travis feels like a lightened up 888, but apparently the adjustablity is great on the Travis and maybe some setup will change that.
My personal choice would probably be a Boxxer. They're light, stiff, 8" travel and a proven design from 2005. But thats just my 2 cents.

From reading some previews 06 888 has hi and low speed compression which claims to stop the diving you speek of timmigrant . But then they would say that wouldn't they.
Maybe just a bad run with Boxxers over here but they dont inspire confidence , few guys I ride with had trouble with 05's .
Hey my Shiver is still sweet , wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to hold on to it for longer

tons of chatting with James@OGC about it mostly...
its basicly everything i want one a fork all wrapped into a single package..
plus theres no denying the "gear-whore" aspect... :agree:
i've tried the fork breifly but nothing i would consider a true fork-test...
with that siad i'll still be first in line with my C/C primed and ready to swipe... :agree:

Go-ride has the pricing up. The one with Ti springs is 50$ less than a 888.
If this thing is like the reliable dorado I dream it to be, marz is facing some serious competition.

That's MSRP, actual price should be cheaper.
