View Full Version : 5+ hour rides.
Id like to get into some longer rides that are not jut hitting continous laps of a mountain. XC, Freeride whatever its all good but the more singletrack the better
there must be some tasty goods to be had up towards whistler. Any gems out there that a guy must hit. The closer the better, its tough getting away for any real leagth of time these days.

i can think of one in nelson, but it is probably only 3+ hrs.
Im hoping to hit the 7 summits this fall in Rossi '
Lots of stuff up north towards loops and the chilcotins im sure but I need to squeeze these into day trips
I know a couple loops in Squamish that a guy can tie together and at least one on the Sunshine Coast. Anything out in the Hope area?

Comfortably Numb AKA My ass is bleeding is great epic loop. Starts just up a bit from the Wedge hiking trail lot amd goes up up up up pretty much entirely ridable on a XC rig and comes down near Mons or Lost Lake depending on your route. The Flank trail can be done from Callaghan to Soo? or 16 mile or cut into bits as there are ways in and out at Callaghan, Function, Rainbow and the garvel pit which I think is 16Mile. It's a good grunt but not as aesthetic as My Ass Is Bleeding. You can string together tons of stuff in the West Side road area too around Binty's, Mels or past Alpine, is that Thrill Me Kill Me? and out of that one double back around Emerald Lake on the east side.
Squamish.
I can string together a bunch of trails that'll demand a lot of skill, strength and endurance. Depending on the choices, it can go for anything from 4-6 hours.
Kn.
Id like to put a ride together that hit the goods up at Alice lake then tied into somthing fun at diamondhead and finnished on the steep rocks of the bluffs.
Fire roads suck, the more single the better if you ask me
Took me and my chums the best part of 5 hours to get down Cypress, just the once.
That was a classic ride. :D

Whistler and Pemberton. Everything that Oldfart listed and then some. Mt. Thurston outside of Chiliwack. Some in Manning, more is open off season. Disneyland in Britannia Beach. Triple Mtn. rides on the shore. Tenquille lake in Pemberton Meadows. South Chilcotins.
I am, in fact going to ride uncomfortable bum in whistler tomorrow. Finish it with a dive into lost lake.

Sunshine Coast. Take the ferry over. Ride the singletrack at Sprokids park, do the singletrack climb up Mt Elphinstone over to Roberts Creek and then do a few loops on the trails off the B&K road, then ride back down to Langdale on Sprokids singletrack (Hwy 101, Hwy 102). Sprokids = endless singletrack. Roberts Creek and B & K are fireroad climbs, but singletrack descents. You can easily do 5-6 hours and only have ridden a small fraction of the trails. Ride to & from Horsehoe Bay on Marine Drive in W Van as a warmup and warmdown. D.

I think Duncan is onto something in his last sentence: ride to the the ride if you want to get the that epic juice flowing. It's empowering to get all the way over the mtn on your own steam, then ride all the trails and get your fat a$$ home. Don't forget to send a fart out to the shuttler smokin the cigarette at the top as you point 'er down the trail.

sunshine coast is by far the most amazing epic i have done. you get good xc, good freeriding all in one day. comfortably numb is also excellent, not quite as long tho i dont think. and go ride the test of metal trails in squish, they are pretty decent.

Riding to a riding location from home isnt an option when your living in Langley. We do have some wicked road riding though right out the door. Big rides on country roads with no traffic.
I wouldnt want to flip off the shuttlers as they may not give me a ride up when Im hitching rides at the bottom of seymour.
I hear you can ride to pender harbour from gibsons on mostley singletrack. Anyone done it?

Never done it, but that might be the route of the Sunshine Coast Trail Ride put on by the Great Explorations tour company. The blurb says it uses a combination of "existing trail systems, deactivated forest service road and singletrack." A friend of mine was doing that ride on the weekend, if I talk to her this week I'll ask what the trails were like.

you can go on trails till you get to davies bay....then you have to road it through sechelt, as there is only 12 or so city blocks that actually connects you with the mainland. After sechelt, you can pick your way through some road, some fire road, and some old roads most of the way to madiera park

Instead of davies bay, I meant to say porpoise bay. Brain fart
Oh yea.....The ride from the ferry terminal, to roberts creek, B&K and then back again, is an awsome ride for sure.....definately one of my favs.
