Shore is getting extremly dry and dusty right now. I wonder how many more days without rain it will take before they shut the mountains down. I would think it would hit the extreme fire hazard range pretty soon.

FYI - Cypress is riding extremley loose and dusty. Normaly im a Cypress fan but I would have to say Fromme and Seymour are riding a little better right now.

I have been away for a while, I really hope to get riding before (and if) it all gets shut down!

I rode a certain lengthy trail on Cypress late yesterday afternoon and it was so dry, easy and fast, it was shocking. I have never experienced it like that.

I don't think they'll shut 'er down this year.

Seymour is at "High" and pretty dusty, at least on the lower trails. Once they set a precedence for closing the trails, it becomes pretty easy to do it again.

I was trying to go over to Beacon today (in Washington) just to find out the whole interstate is closed between here and idaho, because of a huge fire that just sparked up last night... fire season is starting it seems like.

thing with your head.. erosion can be fixed with many man hours, loosing the forest and all the wood to build your trails, wont be back for 100's of years.. i would take wet over anything, personaly i like riding the shore while its just wet enugh that the Roots are slick, it seperates the boys from the women like me. :agree:

My personal opinion is that the trails are damaged more in the very dry than the wet. Rode Cypress today & whoa, talk about loose! At least in the wet the trails are tacky. (Except after a dry spell then they are greasy) For me the real riding begins in the fall. Different riders, differing opinions.

I find that when the trails get ultra dry, as they are getting now, they start to fall apart too.

Essentially, when it's drier out the trails will get worn out much worse than when wet. Speed tends to increase with dryness, so the lines that people choose differ dramatically. Some cut corners tighter, others more moderate and the rest wide. Trails become more defined in the wet and people more often than not will hit the same line, so the erosion is more focused on specific points on the trail as compared to dry conditions.

It sure is hazy/smoggy out in my neck of the woods these days.:(

i just hope it all holds out long enough to let me get my time in up there.
as a montana resident, i can relate. The fire season is serious, and they do have to shut things down.

I cant see a back country ban coming..we got a lot of rain this spring..the one yr we had the ban we didnt have nearly such a wet spring..if it stays dry until the end of sept then we might see a back country ban.
