You're comin down for Red Bull :dog: ? Rad, it should be a perfect course for you.

As far as getting better, it really depends on the severity of the strain, some last longer than broken bones  However, just pretend to yourself that it's not that bad, and see if you can ride around on it a little later... usually you can just tough them out

I hope you're not in the same boat as me, I can't go to the Red Bull thing because I'll flunk highschool if I miss that weekend  pretty harsh, and there's nothing I can do about it.

You want to ice it up good so that swelling doesn't cause more tissue damage.

But you also want to work on mobility so that any torn tissue doesn't scar up.

So ice it, for a couple days, then easy stretching exercises (rotating your ankle in a big circle) with icing in between. Increase the stretching as the days go by, and when it feels stronger, work on strengthening the muscles around it. Standing on one foot and swinging the other leg with arms held out is good for balance, and therefore good for strength. Also, rocker exercises work very well.

if you want to keep riding tape the injury extremely tight so it doesnt get any blood flow to cause the inflamation

A pinched nerve isn't a sprained ankle but thanks for trying. Pinching a nerve has to do with a completely different thing.

ICE IS GOOD! Ice for 10 let off for 20, ice for 10, let off for 20. Repeat for 2 hours then take a big break.

Yah, the bars up in Whitefish can get a little out of control on the weekends, if you don't ride, chances are you'll have lots of fun... Red Bull and Vodka :D Maybe you can just ride drunk and you won't notice the pain, it worked this one time for me... but yah, we start building the course next weekend, word has it that the loop is John Cowan style, but taller  and there will be a 50-60 foot step down in the snizow, I get to ride the course all week... just won't be there for the comp, i'm stoked.

SWEET! you get to ride in the freezeride? Props.
I sprained my knee last year, I couldnt even put wait on it, it was buckling and sutff harsh and I had crutches for like a week and a bit and it was fine, two weeks should be perfect. Yeah, I am not gonna reccomend anything, cause I aint a doctor, I basically just left my knee. BUT ligaments\ and stuff take the longest to heal cause there arent reallly and blood vessels and stuff, and the way it heals is getting blood to it I think... so I wouldnt tighten a bandage around it limiting the flow imo.

just rest it sometimes,a nd definitly do rotation exercises and stuff... that sounds good eh?
the only thing my doctor told me was to not try to walk it off, thats the worst for it and makes it take the longest.

Try homeopathic medicines, I use one it comes in a small tube with white little round tablets about the size f bb pellets. it is called "sport bone", you could also use one called "bruises and spraines" pick them up at capers. They work great! I was out of my arm cast in 2 weeks when that said it was gogin to be over 1 month before it comes off cuz i used those when I broke my wrist. They R0x0r.

I'm leaving on friday with shaums and co to come down and build. Can't fucking wait. for the ankle GET an ankle brace. I have a Axis one and its the shit. It fits in your shoes and everything and keeps your ankle stable. You can get them a drug stores

Get your ankle moving asap. Use small ranges of movement (ROM) for about 7-12 min and then ice for 15. Try to do this 3-4 times per day. As the mobility of your ankle improves, increase the ROM. Initially limit the amount of weight bearing exercises/movements on your ankle, just keep it moving. To help with pain and inflamation take some ibuprofen (don't buy Advil more money for the same stuff). Do some self massage as well. The massage and and ROM exercises will hurt, but do them anyway. That pain is the tearing of scar tissue which is trying to bind your ankle together to stabilize it. It is very important to prevent the buildup of scar tissue early, otherwise it will take a longer time for your ankle to heal properly. After 7-10 days start doing some weight bearing exercises such as squats with bodyweight only, balancing on one foot (have something to hold on to for support if you need it) and ride your bike. Limit any difficult stunts that will put excessive pressure on your ankle such as 3+ft drops to flat. For the Ride, definitely get your ankle taped up or wear a brace for extra support.

Note: The Physician and Sports Medicine, a professional sports medicine journal, advocates mobility after an injury to shorten healing time and promote a more complete recovery from soft tissue injuries.

That's very swollen. You should be icing it a lot, and as others have pointed out, you should see a physio right away as a good physio can really help shorten the recovery time. Also, you could take Advil as it helps reduce inflamation.

But yeah, see a physio right away. I've found that the sooner I go to one, the quicker the recovery time.
