Here would be my 04 Transition Dirtbag with 7" Avalanche Chubbie. Upfront we have a USD180 DNM that has treated me well. It's a sweet ride, and it was worth every single penny I spent on it. Even though the poor shock needs a nitrogen charge, and probably a rebuild, it still performs smoothly.

The Rhynolite is dead; the Highway ditch killed it, haha.

Very soon, it will feature an E13 DRS, and a front MTX.

PS..Goodridge brake line for ~100, or steel braided Shimano for very cheap?

Go for it...mine is in need of love and it still feels plusher than an RC.

btw...I know you run Avids as well...did you ever try the Flak Jacket? I just threw a new one on the back, and although I notice is less cable stretch and housing compression, I'm not convinced it makes a significant difference. What'd you think?

Nice to see you went for it. I have a similar setup and I love my Dirtbag/avalanche combo.

No...never tried the flak jacket....I gotta do some work on my brakes...they were not quite there on my last ride, also seems like a lot of drag in the lines...if anyone has a tried other housing I would love to hear it. I wonder what the Gore stuff is like?

How much did the chubbie set you back?

The next upgrades I want is a Fox 36Van and some Avid Juicy 5 or 7's...other than that I am totaly happy with my bike...it is amazing.

I am too fat for the ti...me thinks. I am running a 850 on my romic and it is just about right. Romic only makes one up from that...and I hear its a real pain in the ass to work with...

I was running a low end Lambert Select cable, and typical Shimano housing before the Flak Jacket, and the set up wasn't much behind the Avid. How ever, the Flak Jacket is much sturdier, rigider, and compresses faaar less. The cable is also far more slick. I don't notice any cable stretch either.

I ran the bare minimum length I had to, and made sure to grease the cable a tiny bit, and to lube the inside of the housing. Also, I found with Avid mechs you shouldn't really route your cable through the last cable guide before the brake...it creates issues as your suspension compresses.

If you're still having problems with your housing, give the Flak Jacket a go. It should run you 20 at the most, 15 if your shop is nice.

Oh ya, the Chubbie came with the frame (bought used), so I really don't know how much more its worth..it retails for 550 USD on the Avalanche site if that's any help.

How is the DNM treating you? I had one a while back, but it was a bit tall so I sold it off. Nice ride, but with a parts spec like that, I would have thought you might splash out for a bit more of a fork?

Well, the DNM has had a lot done to it.

I bought it DIRT cheap off my buddy last year after I broke my DJ3. The fork came stock pretty shitty, but my buddy here was a super good mechanic, so he took it apart and tampered a lot with it. I still don't know what he exactly did..he drilled cartridges, changed the oil and height (came stock with 20wt!), springs, and did some internal work which I never really asked.

But anyways, after I got it back, the fork felt super responsive, plush, and very progressive. It soaks up all the hits, and it has never bottomed out on me.

Apparently, Team Nicolai rode these till about 2003, but they also altered and changed the internals/cartridges.

DNM is supposed to have an upgrade cartridge out, but since they changed their site and I can't contact Billy directly, they havn't emailed me back.
