OK, I will start this one. In response to bike thefts.

Lets list the hotels in Whistler that do allow bike storage in your room and/or who have very secure lock up areas. We need to put an end to theft from bike storage areas in Whistler and force some hotels to beef up their security in the existing ones. Otherwise, they will not get my business. I am not going to store a $7000 bike behind a flimsy door in an underground parking area (some even have open access to the public !!! unbelievable)

The one I know of:

Stoney Creek Resort Properties - good rates and they do accept the BroCard (10% off).

** general note to all: Please clean your bikes before bringing them into hotel rooms. Even a good idea to bring along a plastic drop sheet to put under them. If hotels see that mountain bikers are responsible, they may allow bikes in more rooms.

Most don't. That said, even at the Pan Pacific I snuck mine in through the garage elevator. Has to be done, be clean, no worries.

Good thread. I'm kinda spooked after reading the thread about all the bikes stolen from Tantalus, as I'm coming up there next week for the Gravity Camp, and that's where they're putting us up.

Are they really strict about not allowing bikes in the rooms? After the stories I've read, I can't imagine trusting my bike to their "secure" storage.

We're staying at the Holiday Inn next weekend, and when I called they said that they have a locked room off the lobby that only the desk clerk has access to. When you check in you check your bike and get a tag and they lock it up, then when you want it you give the tag and get it out. And someone is on duty 24-7. Doesn't sound too bad, compared to underground storage...

I'm bringing my ghetto NY lock (3' of 3/8" chain slid through a 1.5" tire tube and secured with a humongous Master lock: about $13 US total) for locking up outside.

The Fairmont and Westin have insured storage areas, I believe the Four Seasons too, but the big hotels are usaully out of most members price range......as far as the Gravity Camp putting people up at Tantalus lodge, all I would say to the Front Desk is "Hey I have heard about all the bikes being stolen from here, guess what I am bringing my bike to the room, tough titties!", plus when you check into a hotel room the room is "yours", its your private residence for your stay, plus the customer is always right....

I have stayed in 2 different hotels in Whistler and both times I had my bikes in my room.

Coast Whistler
Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort

The key is not to announce you are taking your bike to your room. Bring it up through underground parking or somthing.
The Holiday in is set up perfectly is you use the back entrance by the pizza joint. There is an entrance that goes immediatly to the elevator.

Most hotels are are going to say NO....so why bother asking and take that chance......just send in one person up to the room and find a back stair case and an exit to sneak the bikes in(leave a mat in the door)........weve done it several times with no problems :agree:

The Holiday Inn was good about letting bikes in rooms.
Nice rooms too.
